Forse anche con l'installer lo puoi fare... a un certo punto ti chiede se in automatico o manuale e scegli manuale

Ecco la guida che mi son seguito e ottimizzato per ubuntu 8.10 appena installato senza modifiche relative ai driver ati e nessuna abilitazione dei restricted esistenti!

(tenete presente che io ho una ati radeon 9600)

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get autoremove

sudo apt-get update

questi 3 comandi li ho eseguiti sia prima sia dopo l'installazione completata!

ho scaricato il driver 9.1 della ati
http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

poi

sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf libstdc++5 dkms


create sulla scrivania una cartella di nome driver-ati

inseriteci dentro il file scaricato ed entrate tramite terminale dentro la cartella driver-ati così:

cd S (tab e invio) cd driver-ati (invio)
cmq sia entrate li se non vi piace come ho scritto Cheesy

e date il seguente comando

sudo chmod a+x ati-driver-installer-9-1-x86.x86_64.run

a questo punto ho praticamente seguito la guida della ati nel file pdf di nome linux_cat91-inst.pdf ed ho effettuato la pacchettizzazione del driver non l'installazione automatica! quindi da quà in avanti prite il file pdf come riferimento e seguite quanto sotto tenendo d'occhio la guida pdf:

sh ./ati-driver-installer (tab per completare il nome)  --buildpkg Ubuntu/intrepid
il comando completo è questo sotto!

sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-9-1-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/intrepid

a questo punto se non ricordo male (io ho fatto varie prove per capire i comandi da fare) dovrebbe partire la pacchettizzazione e completarla!

fatto questo dentro la cartella driver-ati dovreste trovare vari file, fateci doppio click per installarli con la seguente sequenza:

fglrx-kernel-source - Kernel module source for the ATI graphics accelerators  1
fglrx-modaliases - Identifiers supported by the ATI graphics driver  2
libamdxvba1 - AMD Unified Video Decoder library  3
xorg-driver-fglrx - Video driver for the ATI graphics accelerators 4
fglrx-amdcccle - Catalyst Control Center for the ATI graphics accelerators  5
xorg-driver-fglrx-dev - Video driver for the ATI graphics accelerators (devel files)   6

fatto questo vi portate dentro la cartella sotto

sudo aticonfig --initial

riavviate e una volta giunti sul desktop attendete un attimo che i driver restricted si abilitino (almeno a me è capitato così!), vi dovrebbe comparire una finestrella di avviso che vi dice questo, da li in poi potete provare i comandi di verifica di installazione e tutto dovrebbe andare.


p.s.

non state li a fare dei backup di xorg che tanto ci pensa il comando dato sopra, vi basta andare dentro X11/xorg che dovreste vedere sia il file xorg.conf nuovo sia un file rinominato di backup.

quella automatica non l'ho provata, le mie prove erano solo per trovare i comandi per fare la pacchettizzazione...

però secondo me le differenze sono le seguenti:

i pacchetti te li troverai in snaptic come pacchetti facenti parte di ubuntu, i driver restricted che si abiliteranno sono quelli che ti sei pacchettizzato te con i comandi sopra e non i vecchi.

Insomma come da guida ati ha dichiarato, seguendo la pacchettizzazione hai una configurazione specifica e completa per la tua distro.

devo dire una cosetta, ora ho solo 256MB di ram sul pc e da quel che vedo sono obbligato a tenere le impostazioni 3d su catalist al minimo, altrimenti rallenta tutto..tieni presente che la mia scheda è vecchiotta.

Poi se vuoi ho notato la solita rottura di balle che non mi tiene la frequenza del monitor come la imposto io, ad ogni riavvio ritorna al max.

ma a questo appena trovo i comandi metamodes ecc penso di risolverlo! devo solo trovarli.

se cambiasse qualcosa sulle prestazioni o funzionalità allora penso che ati adotterebbe solo la procedura migliore, in questo caso si tratta solo di compatibilità,integrazione e ottimizzazione con la distribuzione

ho provato a mettere 1gb di ram sul pc e le differenze si vedono in modo notevole  Grin

quindi direi tutto a posto, certo che essendo una scheda con soli 128Mb di ram su googlehearth fa quello che può, però di tutto rispetto!

Installando i driver col metodo di lele ubuntu ci risolve il problema dei video con gli effetti attivi.

Il metodo di LeleBuntu è quello della pacchettizzazione dei driver: è il metodo che prima dei driver 8.1 occorreva quasi forzatamente usare per installare i driver fglrx.

Non fa alcuna differenza. L'installazione automatica è equivalente.

Se qualcuno è masochista e vuole cmq usare la procedura manuale, la guida presente in questo post è stata copiata (senza citarne l'origine tuttavia, il che non è "buon costume") da http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Intrepid_Installation_Guide.

Dunque in caso di necessità usate quella, che è l'"originale".
