Ciao, scusatemi se mi faccio vivo solo ora, ma sono sommerso di impegni in questo periodo.

Forse ho trovato il bug cosi noioso...
Probabilmente hai una vecchia versione del DBus (una libreria molto utile in linux).
Su ubuntu 8.10 infatti ho notato che c'è la versione 1.2.4, mentre su una distribuzione sabayon dove mi dava l'errore c'era una 1.2.3
(riusciresti a controllare sul tuo sistema cosa c'è? ad esempio potresti fare una ricerca con synaptic)
Praticamente una chiamata ad un metodo (tra l'altro ridondante) mandava in crash il programma.

Per quanto riguarda il rimanere in esecuzione di wvdial è normale: se il programma crasha io perdo il controllo sul processo che rimane orfano (ma funzionante). Dovrei legarlo all'applicazione che lo lancia cosi se crasha viene terminato anche wvdial... mi riprometto di lavorarci su.

Il caso "anomalo" come dici tu, probabilmente ti è venuto fuori facendo delle prove. Il messaggio di errore che da infatti dice che non riesce ad aggiornare il record della connessione corrente. Forse la connessione era terminata o si era impallato il programma.

Ciao ragazzi, avrei bisogno di alcune conferme per rendere il programma più robusto.

Io ho sottoscritto un abbonamento tre.dati quindi non soffro del cosiddetto "bug della mezzanotte", avrei però bisogno di sapere come si comporta la Tre con gli altri piani in offerta.
Mi spiego meglio:
se io inizio una connessione facciamo alle 23.45 ed inizio a scaricare. I miei 50 MB giornalieri si ridurranno man mano. Cosa succede alla mezzanotte? Ho di nuovo 50 MB oppure devo disconnettere e riconnettere per azzerare il traffico?

Okkio perchè pyWvDialPlus alla mezzanotte azzera il traffico (con il mio abbo funziona cosi: verificato sul sito della Tre). Se mi fate sapere aggiorno di conseguenza (pensavo ad un messaggio che invita ad interrompere la connessione se si è prossimi alla soglia e si supera la mezzanotte).

Ciao ... era un pò che non mi facevo sentire!

Vorrei chiedere una cosa:

Sto usando credo l'ultima versione 0.5.4, e ho notato che quando mi sconnetto e riconnetto il contatore delle soglie che si può vedere cliccando sul tasto "info" si azzera tutte le volte. E' normale che faccia cosi oppure c'è qualche cosa che non mi funziona ? Io pensavo che questo contatore (a cui ho fatto caso solo ieri sera) tenesse il conto del traffico giornaliero (poichè nella scheda "config"->"traffic limit"->"Ceck period" ho impostato "day").
Ho anche notato che pero le soglie vengono conteggiate nel modo giusto, infati ieri sera si è sconnesso come da programma al raggiungimento dei 49M, pero sembra che la visualizzazione riguardi solo i dati dell'ultima sessione.

Bene, sono contento che il programma funzioni a dovere (almeno nel tuo caso  )
Per quanto riguarda la sezione "info" quella l'ho ereditata pari pari da pyWvDial e ti confermo che legge i dati SOLO della connessione corrente quindi è normale che se riavvii si azzera tutto (si azzera tutto anche a livello di sistema operativo ed infatti quei dati vengono letti direttamente dal processo di sistema che avvia la connessione)

Per rispondere a cou invece, per aggiornare  qualsiasi componente di ubuntu puoi farlo direttamente da synaptic.
Certo che se non hai mai aggiornato nulla e con 50 mb al giorno la vedo molto molto dura (DBus saranno 4-5MB al massimo ma sicuramente il sistema ti proporrà tutti gli altri aggiornamenti per il resto del sistema operativo, che volendo non installi... ovvio)
Non riesci a scroccare una connessione decente da qualche parte ed aggiornare per benino tutto l'aggiornabile? Questo ovviamente è un consiglio a prescindere dall'utilizzo di pyWvDialPlus ( a proposito non ho capito se con l'ultima modifica ti funziona finalmente)

So che non è politicamente corretto ma spesso in giro per le città si trovano delle connessioni wireless accessibili (di solito in prossimità di alberghi) oppure ci sono locali che offrono connettività wireless (anche se limitata nel tempo)

Eccomi di nuovo con una nuova versione che introduce alcune piccole migliorie ma soprattutto un'importante modifica:

A quanto pare, con l'opzione Naviga 3 se ci si collega vicino alla mezzanotte e si rimane connessi oltre, la soglia non si azzera fino a che non chiudiamo la connessione corrente e ne riapriamo una nuova.
Ho quindi inserito un'ulteriore opzione per gestire questo comportamento. In Config->Traffic Limit trovate una check chiamata Midnight Bug. Se impostate su "on" il conteggio del traffico non si azzera alla mezzanotte ma solo alla nuova connessione (cosi come fa effettivamente la tre con i suoi conteggi).

Ho aggiunto inoltre una pagina di statistiche (ancora piuttosto rudimentale) a cui si può accedere facendo click destro sull'icona nella systray. Da qui si visualizzano tutte le connessioni lanciate, si possono esportare in un file di testo e si può anche "svuotare" il database delle connessioni.
Nella sezione info inoltre ho aggiunto la visualizzazione delle velocità istantanee di download ed upload.


Nell'archivio inoltre ora potete trovare anche uno script che esegue la configurazione del file sudoers in automatico e copia lo scrip kill_wvdial nella cartella corretta.
Per usarlo è sufficente digitare da terminale, dopo essersi posizionati nella cartella:

sudo ./setup_sudoers nomeutente

sostituire ovviamente nomeutente con il proprio

Funziona con qualsiasi gestore. Dipende infatti dalla configurazione di wvdial, quindi se con wvdial funziona, allora è ok anche per il programmino.
Lo script però è pensato per controllare i MB di traffico scambiato e non il tempo, quindi per le tariffe a tempo non è molto utile.
Se ho modo nella prossima settimana, magari faccio il controllo anche del tempo di connessione. Non dovrebbe essere una cosa lunga da fare.

Non devi installare nulla. Il setup che trovi nell'archivio viene creato di default dal tool che ho usato per la programmazione, ma non è stato implemetato.
Devi semplicemente estrarre l'archivio ad esempio nella tua home e poi lanciare lo script principale che è pyWvDialPlus.py

Per lanciare qualsiasi script realizzato in Python ti posizioni dove c'è lo script e poi esegui da terminale (per comodità puoi sempre creare un launchers da posizionare sul tuo desktop):

Inoltre per funzionare correttamente questo script ha bisogno di un piccolo trucchetto per lanciare wvdial con sudo ma senza richiesta di password.
Nell'archivio troverai una cartella "script", posizionati all'interno di questa cartella (una volta estratta) e digita il seguente comando dove al posto di nomeutente dovrai ovviamente sostituire il nome con cui accedi al sistema.

Questo script come descritto nella prima pagina, provvede a modificare il file sudoers aggiungendo il tuo nome utente tra quelli che non hanno bisogno di inserire la password per eseguire wvdial, e copia un piccolo script bash nella cartella /usr/bin che permette di chiudere la connessione in automatico allo scadere del conteggio.

Non devi installare nulla. Il setup che trovi nell'archivio viene creato di default dal tool che ho usato per la programmazione, ma non è stato implemetato.
Devi semplicemente estrarre l'archivio ad esempio nella tua home e poi lanciare lo script principale che è pyWvDialPlus.py

Per lanciare qualsiasi script realizzato in Python ti posizioni dove c'è lo script e poi esegui da terminale (per comodità puoi sempre creare un launchers da posizionare sul tuo desktop):

Inoltre per funzionare correttamente questo script ha bisogno di un piccolo trucchetto per lanciare wvdial con sudo ma senza richiesta di password.

no,scusate... è che mi interessa troppo! già ieri la 3 mi ha ciucciato per sbaglio dei soldi X(
comunque...  come andrebbe configurato il programma? c'è altro da mettere oltre alla soglia da raggiungere e la percentuale per il warning? la configurazione deve essere nuova o posso usare quella che c'è di default? in parole povere non mi connette il modem.

Mi pare di capire che non ti è molto chiaro come funziona il tutto, tranquillo chiedi pure.
Anche io ho regalato un sacco di soldi alla 3 e quindi ti capisco perfettamente...

Lo script fa essenzialmente queste cose:
- avvia il programma wvdial in un processo separato. wvdial è un famoso programma per linux che si occupa di gestire le connessioni ppp
- ogni tot secondi controlla quanti dati sono stati scambiati andando a leggerli da alcuni file di sistema. Questi dati vengono memorizzati in un piccolo database locale cosi da poter fare agevolmente i conteggi delle soglie.
- se il totale del traffico supera una prima soglia viene segnalato un warning
- se il totale del traffico supera la soglia massima viene proposta la disconnessione. Se attiva l'opzione e non c'è risposta il sistema viene disconnesso in modo automatico (da qui la necessità di eseguire il comando che ti dicevo sudo ./setup_sudoers nomeutente. Anzi per verificare che sia tutto configurato correttamente apri un terminale e digita:

Se ti viene richiesta la password o il sistema ti dice che non c'è il programma kill_wvdial significa che non hai eseguitop correttamente il passaggio precedente.

La configurazione viene presa dal file /etc/wvdial.conf presente nel sistema, quindi se non ti si collega significa che non ci sono le stringhe di inizializzazione giuste.
Per il resto, i parametri principale che servono al funzionamento dello script e basta (nel senso che wvdial li ignora anche se vengono scritti nel suo file di configurazione) sono i seguenti:

Abilitare l'esecuzione di wvdial come root (altrimenti in ubuntu non si connette):
Da questa immagine puoi vedere anche le mie stringhe di inizializzazione del modem, se non ti si collega prova ad usare queste. Ricorda però che l'apn per naviga3 è naviga3.tre.it e NON datacard.tre.it come nel mio caso.



Impostare le soglie e le opzioni giuste. Il traffico è in megabyte, il tempo in secondi. Queste opzioni sono valide per il mio abbo che prevede 1 Giga al giorno (tre.dati plus). Per la classica Naviga3 il traffico deve essere 50MB o 100MB non ricordo.



L'immagine è vecchia ci dovrebbero essere altre opzioni come la gestione del comportamento alla mezzanotte. Leggi qualche post più indietro.
