GUIDA: Come Installare il Driver NVIDIA (valido per tutte le versioni di Ubuntu)

Ora ho installato il kernel 2.6.19-6 prelevandolo dai package di Feisty perchè il prec. kernel non supporta il chipset Nvidia sulla mia MB (MCP61 = GPU Geforce6100+Nforce405) e Edgy non vedeva scheda di rete e audio.

Non puoi usare i miei restricted modules dato che sono specifici per il kernel ufficiale di Ubuntu.

Però puoi usare Envy

No, dato che i miei repository non supportano Feisty (e i suoi kernel) al momento.

Io ho un Sony CPD G200, e vorrei usarlo a 1024x768 a 100hz di refresh. Non è che potreste cercare le impostazioni da usare? Io non riesco a capire le modeline da usare, ci son troppi numeri strani che non capisco a cosa servano.


Altra cosa:
visto che nel file di config dell'Xorg ci sono tutte le modalità possibili, qual'è il comando che dice al pc quale modalità (risoluzione e refresh) usare?

Ora synaptics mi dice che vuole aggiornare i pacchetti xorg, xserver-xorg e altri del server X dalla versione 7.1.1ubuntu 6.1 alla versione 7.1.1ubuntu6.2(ho abilitato i repository edgy-proposed).
Cmq, memore di vecchie esperienze in cui aggiornando questi pacchetti non mi si avviava più il server grafico, vorrei sapere come fare per aggiornare il sistema e magari aggiornare il driver alla versione 9631.

Ok grazie l'aggiornamento di xorg è andato: ora vorrei aggiornare il driver nvidia.
Se l'ho installato col metodo 2 della wiki devo prima disinstallare il vecchio per poi installare quello nuovo? O c'è una procedura + veloce?

volevo installare i driver nvidia e dopo moltissime peripezie e xorg.conf vari ho provato anche envy:
il problema è che al riavvio di gdm lo schermo del portatile si spegne e stop, si sente la musichetta del log in, ma video niente....
ho un satellite 2450-s203 con GeForce 4 420 Go, non necessita quindi dei legacy, ma se nello xorg.conf c'è "nvidia" al posto di "nv" lo schermo non ne vuole sapere, vi posto lo xorg.conf che mi ha generato envy:

il fatto è che voglio l'accelerazione della scheda (per xgl o aiglx)....

Salve a tutti,
ho installato l'ultima versione dei driver ufficiali Nvidia (tramite installer, versione 9631) sulla mia Ubuntu Edgy.

I driver funzionano (vedo il logo, l'accelerazione funziona) ma non riesco ad abilitare l'estensione "composite" per compiz: quando lo faccio, subito dopo il login grafico la schermata diventa improvvisamente nera e si vede soltanto il puntatore del mouse. Disabilitando l'opzione tutto funziona (tranne compiz  ).

Qualcuno sa aiutarmi?

salve a tutti sono sempre io  

preso da frenesia ho reinstallato xubuntu e la prima cosa che ho fatto è stato installare envy,
poi ho fatto ctrl+alt+f1, ho loggato come root, ho stoppato gdm e lanciato envy.
alla fine ho riavviato gdm e in pratica stavolta lo schermo si è acceso, ma era bianco a righe verticali colorate, tipo arcobaleno...
ho ripristinato il vecchio xorg e sono venuto da voi a chiedere:  AIUTO!!!
ma che diavolo ho fatto???
ho una Nvidia GeForce 4 420 Go 32 Mb di ram....
può essere che non mi sia possibile usare un driver che mi abiliti il 3d???

che devo fare?

ho seguito il tuo consiglio ma il problema rimane lo stesso:
stavolta al riavvia di gdm lo schermo fa una dissolvenza in apertura, ossia si schiarisce piano piano verso una specie di arcobaleno, della schermata di log in nessuna traccia

ti posto lo xorg dopo che ho effettuato le modifiche riportate al punto sette e all'ultimo punto della sezione sui problemi della tua guida:

che ne dici? ho modificato anche il file option in /etc/modprobe.d/ così:

che devo fare? il refresh di 60 hz l'ho trovato avviando windows e controllando le impostazioni della scheda video... e poi ho impostato "1024x768_60" nello xorg...

help...

***ultimo aggiornamento: ho chiuso lo schermo del notebook e quando l'ho riaperto c'era la schermata 'arcobaleno' ........sto cominciando a pensare che questo pc è posseduto...
o più complessato di me
