Compiling Drivers for the Supplied Wireless Card
Note 1: This fix is confirmed to work for WEP (64 bit) and WPA Personal though some users have reported problems (particularly with WPA Enterprise), including dropped networks and system freezes requiring a reboot. For up to date information and help, try visiting this forum thread.
Note 2: Keep in mind that future updates (e.g with Update Manager) of the kernel will likely require you to rebuild the drivers and put them in a new folder for that kernel. You might want to uncheck kernel upgrades on the update manager program in order to keep your drivers running smoothly, or otherwise repeat the procedure detailed below after the upgrade.
First, you need a proper build environment with the appropriate kernel headers. This is done fairly easily:
Next, download and unpack the modified driver sources:Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r`
Now build them:Codice: Seleziona tutto
wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16098501/rtl8187se_linux_26.1016.0716.2008.tar.gz tar xvzf rtl8187se_linux_26.1016.0716.2008.tar.gz
Now, assuming everything compiled without errors, try starting it all up using the wlan0up script. This will insert the appropriate modules and enable the wireless device. You should then be able to use it with Ubuntu's network manager.Codice: Seleziona tutto
cd rtl8187se_linux_26.1016.0716.2008 ./makedrv
To map all of the new modules so the wireless drivers are accessible at boot, you will want to copy all of the .ko files (see list below) into: /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo ./wlan0up
(in ieee80211)
* ieee80211_crypt-rtl.ko
* ieee80211_crypt_wep-rtl.ko
* ieee80211_crypt_tkip-rtl.ko
* ieee80211_crypt_ccmp-rtl.ko
* ieee80211-rtl.ko
(in rtl8185)
* r8180.ko
This can be done (from within the base folder of the uncompressed driver files) by using:
Lastly, you should run:Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo cp -r ieee80211/*.ko /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ sudo cp rtl8185/r8180.ko /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
Although the Wifi toggle key (Fn + F11) will work as expected, Ubuntu's network manager applet won't realize that you toggled off the wireless card for a little while.Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo depmod -a sudo modprobe r8180
Optimizing Ubuntu for the 1024x600 Screen
Smaller Fonts
You may want to reduce the default font resolution from 96 to 83:
* System => Preferences => Appearance => Fonts => Details (button)
Gnome Fullscreen Mode
In Gnome, any application can be made to take up the whole screen, however, there is no default key binding set up. To setup a key binding (suggested is Alt + F11) to toggle fullscreen mode, go to System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Window Management > Toggle Fullscreen Mode and select a keybinding.
This screen mode can flicker if compiz is enabled. To fix that problem, install compizconfig-settings-manager by opening up the Terminal application and typing:
Then, go to to System > Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, click the "General Options" button and untick "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows". You can now enable an application to be displayed taking up the whole 1024x600 screen resolution.Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Terminate la sessione oppure riavviate, e alla prossima sessione Compiz sarà attivo e funzionante! (good)Compiz Fusion provides a number of fancy 3-D effects on your desktop, including the infamous cube (see video demonstration here).
First, install the CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM):
Next, enable Advanced Desktop Effects by going to "Appearance Preferences" and checking the "Custom" box:Codice: Seleziona tutto
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
* System => Preferences => Appearance => Visual Effects => Custom (check)
Now, open the CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM) from:
* System => Preferences => Advanced Desktop Effects Settings
Configure Compiz to your liking. For some suggestions and help.

Just to make sure, I also did a..
sudo gedit /etc/modules
and added... uvcvideo
A reboot, a couple of Fn-F6s and what hey, it was working.
Quindi potrebbe potresti risolvere aggiornando il firmware del router. Non so se questo utente, ha avuto fortuna o cosa.Yes, I also run the MSI Wind with the integrated wireless card (Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.1 with latest updates). The rtl8187 driver has been compiled on the Wind (and must be compiled again after each kernel upgrade). I am using WPA with AES / CCMP encryption.T0rNaD0 wrote:
Has anyone managed to get the wireless card working with WPA?
However, I needed to update my router firmware : the Wind could not connect to it using WPA, while my notebook does, and the Wind worked with another router and WPA. The router is a Linksys WRT54G, and I needed to upgrade the firmware from 3.03 to 4.20 (latest available) to make it work. That issue seems not directly related to the Wind, as my PDA (HTC Touch Cruise) suffered from the same problem and now connects to the router with WPA enabled.
