kernel, misterioso. il fisso si è aggiornato mentre il portatile no?

Problemi riscontrati nella Hardy (Ubuntu 8.04) in fase di sviluppo.

come da titolo come mai il kernel con numero finale 16 il fisso si è aggiornato mentre nel portatile no? ho eseguito le stesse operazioni per l'aggiornamento.

ho fatto l'installazione upgradando tutti e due i computer alla stessa maniera, ma poi di strano ho una cosa,
quando avvio il sistema operativo sul fisso ho la classica schermata con la barra che cresce da sinistra a destra nel portatile oltre a questo sotto la barra vedo scorrere
delle scritte delle funzioni che vengono caricate cosa che nel fisso non avviene.

sul portatile non c'è "quiet" nella riga del kernel

come mai non riesco ad aggiornare il kernell alla versione -2.6.24-16
