[Risolto] impossibile installare Drivers Wireless su Dell 600 (B43 Legacy)

Ho appena installato Ubuntu 10.10 su un vecchio Notebook Dell 600
Al momento di installare i Driver Hardware il sistema ho rilevato la scheda Wireless a cui servivano i Drivers Aggiuntivi ma al momento dell'installazione mi è apparso messaggio di errore.
I drivers in questione non possono essere installati per motivi legali.

Si tratta dei Broadcom B43 Legacy Wireless

Ho appena acquistato un modem Wireless D-Link DSL-2640B

come posso risolvere ?

al momento di scaricare il Messaggio di Errore dice :

This package installs the firmware needed for usage of the b43legacy kerneldriver.

questo dice che il pacchetto installa il firmware necessario per l'utilizzo del driver b43legacy,dovresti avere l'opzione installa,hai provato ad installarlo e non lo installa?

Si ho installato BootUp Manager e Chromium, sembra più che altro un problema "legale" con Broadcom B43 Legacy Wireless della Scheda Wireless montata sul Dell 600.
Mi sembra assurdo che non possa funzionare un hardware di un portatile Dell

perchè ti sei andato ad istallare 10.10 visto che ha ancora 2 mesi di supporto e poi muore??

Comunque negli installer (ubiquity) delle ultime versioni i driver Broadcom dovrebbero venire istallati in fase di prima istallazione spuntando "abilita sorgenti software proprietario" (o qualcosa di analogo).

Hai ragione, di solito installo 10.04 LTS perchè da meno problemi con i vecchi pc, non avevo il cd con me e ho utilizzato il CD 10.10.
All'inizio volevo solo preparare l'installazione con Gparted poi ho proseguito.
Tu invece mi consigli distribuzioni più recenti ? Provare con la 10.04 non avrebbe senso ?
ma davvero non posso trovare quei drivers e far riconoscere la scheda Wireless del Dell 600 ??

Il problema è che tempo due mesetti ti troverai senza nemmeno gli aggiornamenti di sicurezza e senza poter accedere ai repository per istallare qualsivoglia programma.
Visto che l'istallazione è così fresca ne vale la pena?

Istallare 10.04, per me, ha ancora molto senso! ;D
...e verrà supportata minimo fino ad Aprile 2013.
Scaricando l'ultima versione disponibile nella pagina ufficiale (la 10.04-4) dovresti trovare l'ultima versione di ubiquity.
ma davvero non posso trovare quei drivers e far riconoscere la scheda Wireless del Dell 600 ??
Sei sicuro di avere abilitato le sorgenti di terze parti?

no credo di no è un sistema nuovissimo appena installato, avevo cominciato dagli Aggiornamenti, Lingua e Driver Hardware

Il fatto che proprio con una ralink, che non c'entra niente con broadcom, riesca a funzionare mi fa pensare...
Potrebbe essere dovuto al fatto che avendo una scheda ethernet BCM vengano caricati i moduli ssb che, notoriamente, disturbano la gestione delle schede wifi.

Che tu ti ritrovi in uso sia i b43-pci-bridge che i b43legacy potrebbe essere risolto blacklistando i moduli.
Si tratta di fare qualche prova per vedere quali sono i meno peggio.

Rimane il fatto che il consiglio migliore che ti posso dare è che, se proprio devi mettere mano su un problema del genere, l'ideale è che tu lo faccia su una 10.04 piuttosto che su una 10.10 morente...

Da quello che vedo l'unico impedimento possibile è proprio il caricamento di ssb (che b43legacy si ritrova anche nelle dipendenze dei moduli):

cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
se non hai problemi particolari col browser (collegati col cavo ethernet poi, se occorre, stacchi quando fai le verifiche) semplicemente copia/incolla i comandi.
C'est plus facile! ;)
