Problema con Monitor esterno

Salve, uso un netbook con Intel Atom N455 e Ubuntu 15.04. Fino a poco tempo fa tutto a posto, ma poi ho cominciato ad avere problemi con il monitor esterno collegato alla VGA, che ho necessità di usare. Adesso quando lo connetto, vedo solo lo sfondo del desktop su entrambi i monitor, senza barre e icone del desktop, il mouse non fa niente, e quando disconnetto, il monitor principale si fa nero e sfarfalla un po', e tutto quello che mi resta da fare è spegnere e riaccendere. Qualcuno sa come risolvere? Grazie mille!

Marca e modello del monitor esterno.

Se sul notebook hai impostato una risoluzione video inferiore a quella supportata dal monitor esterno, l'output va fuori dal quadro del monitor VGA.

Bisogna creare il file Xorg.conf con i settaggi del monitor esterno.

Da terminale postami questo comando:

Il monitor è un Acer AL1715.

1024*768 dovrebbe essere la risoluzione normale del monitor esterno. Non posso impostarla sul monitor principale (almeno non dalle impostazioni di sistema).

Scusate l'intromissione, ma LVDS1 è il monitor interno e molto probabilmente la risoluzione nativa è 1024x600, quindi corretta.
Posta un:

o almeno indica la sigla del portatile perché non ci sono informazioni sufficienti per fornirti aiuto.

Senza monitor esterno connesso mi pare sia OK da quanto dici?

Come lo vuoi configurare? Clonare, estendere o cosa?
Io lascerei stare lo xorg.conf trattandosi di qualcosa di portabile e proverei una soluzione lanciatore stile questa: http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=600106
Visto che usa due uscite diverse è più semplice rispetto all'altro thread.

Ma è VGA1 che deve essere configurato e non LVDS1 che gli funziona già bene.

LVDS1 funziona perfettamente. VGA1 da configurare, ma non posso connetterlo perchè mi si impalla tutto. Prima ne regolavo la risoluzione e lo usavo estendendolo da Impostazioni di sistema -> Monitor.

Il netbook è un emachines 355.

Di solito quando funzionava e non funziona più il problema è il file ~/.config/monitors.xml, che basta eliminare.
Ma non ho la più pallida idea se sulla 15.04 ci sia ancora quel file.
Di sicuro Impostazioni di sistema -> Monitor qualcosa l'ha configurato.
Intanto vedi se trovi quel file e rimuovilo.

Tieni pronto il comando nel terminale:

xrandr --output LVDS1 --pos 0x0 --mode 1024x600 --refresh 60.0\nxrandr --output LVDS1 --primary --output VGA1 --auto --left-of LVDS1
In modo che basta un invio per lanciarlo.
Per ora l'ho esteso a sinistra per vedere cosa succede.
Attacca l'altro monitor, come sfarfalla lancia il comando precedente e poi posta:

Intanto spero ci sia monitors.xml ancora e che basti cancellarlo...

Il primo comando mi ha fatto apparire schermo nero sul monitor principale e una porzione di schermo sul monitor esterno.

Invece xranrd -q mi dice (a monitor esterno connesso):

Il secondo l'ho fatto apparire io in quel modo: --output VGA1 --auto --left-of LVDS1
