io avevo capito che dovevo cercare il firmware dal LiveCd 9.10 e sostituirlo a quello più aggiornato (ma incompatibile) della 10.04 installata.
Non posso aggiungere il CD-ROM nel gestore pacchetti perchè è un Cd 9.10 ?
Sto operando con il cavo LAN ethernet
firmware-b43-installer : non ho capito, non posso installare, non posso disinstallare, non si trova nei repository..è installato nel sistema ? Non è installato ?
Io oggi vorrei provare una 9.10 in Live Cd per vedere se riconosce la scheda Wireless BROADCOM BCM4306 802.11b/g del computer
Hai ragione in rete esistono molte Discussioni vecchie di anni.
Mi puoi dire cosa è possibile fare oggi per far riconoscere e attivare tale scheda ?
il ndiswrapper è l'ultima spiaggia ? non sembra semplicissima questa installazione

Il problema è che nel frattempo certe cose cambiano... oppure vengono semplificate.Hai ragione in rete esistono molte Discussioni vecchie di anni.
Usare guide obsolete a volte serve solo ad ingarbugliare procedure semplici.

di solito bastava fare un click pigro da jockey-gtk e via...
In sè è una cavolata...il ndiswrapper è l'ultima spiaggia ? non sembra semplicissima questa installazione
Si tratta di istallare ndiswrapper e dargli in pasto i driver che usi con Windows sullo stesso PC.
Il problema è che spesso e volentieri ndis ha una gestione pessima.
Sicchè se possiamo direi di evitare.

Ho estrapolato il firmware “install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh” dal Cd Ubuntu 9.10
Ho provato Ubuntu 9.10 in LiveCd ma il Wireless non era attivo
Il sistema ha subito individuato il firmware “non proprietario” della scheda Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless.
Forse getto la spugna.....

a tempo perso, senza stress possiamo cercare, se hai ancora voglia, di risolvere il problema

Secondo me abbiamo sbagliato qualcosa.
Come ti torna la voglia di smanettarci rimuovi tutti gli eventuali residui dai tentativi precedenti e ripartiamo da zero.

Non posso fare l'installazione da capo, ho aggiornato tutto il sistema, installato applicazioni.

Noto poi quell'errore con wpa-supplicant...
(non lo avevi postato... considera che io sono qui e tu sei lì. Se non mi dai tutte le info col cavolo che ne veniamo a capo!)
Prova a disabilitare la password della connessione e vediamo se è quello.
Per rimuovere tutti i tentativi individua i pacchetti istallati con:

ora che ho trovato una scheda Pcmcia che funziona wireless (è bastato infilarla nello slot..)
non c'è il pericolo che andiamo a modificare qualche impostazione/settaggio e che non funziona più ?

Comunque no.
Finchè ci limitiamo a mettere mano sui moduli relativi a bcm4306 (e file correlati) non c'è nessun problema.
Ma toglimi una curiosità...
Alla nuova scheda wifi usb queste impostazioni piacevano?

Per fare i test sono andato a casa di una persona con l'ADSL attiva (per il test completo)
ho fatto richiesta di attivazione oggi per Alice Adsl flat
posso verificare (per adesso) l'attivazione della scheda (se ci riusciamo) e la relativa presenza di reti wireless

Tramite sudo pppoeconf?
Può essere quello (sembra lo stesso tipo di scasinata che fa pppoeconf su /etc/network/interfaces per configuare la connessione Alice).
Vedi se funziona anche con una connessione non Alice e, se è così, direi di lasciare tutto com'è e buonanotte a bcm4306.
