il pc credo che sia poco performante, con 1.72 GHZ. C'è ne voglio molti di più.

ritenterei ad reinstallare Lubuntu per il problema ad grub

invece di usare Firefox, utilizza qualcosa di più leggero, come Midori

Firefox adesso che non ho ancora fatto gli aggiornamenti sta funzionando.
Per quanto riguarda il grub ho installato e reinstallato ma il problema si ripropone.
Lubuntu è il più leggero?
Con questo pc devo soltanto navigare e poco altro...

come ti è stato detto, la liveiso è stata masterizzata correttamente su cd e/o creata correttamente l'immagine su chiavetta?

quando hai reinstallato oggi, cosa hai selezionato nelle impostazioni del setup?

per precauzione prova a ricrearti una nuova iso, e rifai la reinstallazione...
Ricorda che solo tu stai perdendo del santo e prezioso tempo se utilizzi una iso malformattata.

Già che ci sei ti consiglio di fare un controllo integrità del disco fisso AmministrazioneSistema/VerificaDiscoFisso

L'immagine iso l'ho scaricata direttamente dal sito ufficiale di lubuntu e masterizzata da un mac , purtroppo non ho idea di come verificare se l'operazione è stata effettuata correttamente.
Quando ho installato il SO l'ultima volta ho spuntato sostituisci e ho messo entrambe le spunte su aggiornamenti e scarica software da terze parti.
Si è bloccata come al solito su update grub ed è termitata con un bel "l'installazione è andata in crash".
Ho chiuso la finestra, riavviato il pc e il problema della schermata grub iniziale che avevo fino a ieri è scomparso.
Adesso sto postando dal mio portatile con lubuntu, ma ovviamente non ho ancora fatto gli aggiornamenti rimasti richiesti.

il disco ha effetivamente degli errori. si settori LBA

Se hai dati importanti, copiali in qualche altro disco. Un backup, quindi.
Ne vale forse la pena di provare, ti consiglio di riformattarlo a zero (o basso livello), eventualmente da terminale. Con 40 Gb dovresti completarlo in mezza giornata.
Basso livello appunto è un processo piuttosto lento, purtroppo.
qui una guida formattare completamente disco fisso
e provare ad reinstallare.

O cambi disco.

Adesso sto usando ancora la live perche non so se spengendo il portatile posso di nuovo accedere a qualcosa.

Salve, spegnendo non accedi a nulla poiché non c'è nulla, però puoi sempre avviare la Live ed usare tranquillamente il computer.

Per usarlo senza Live devi prima installarci un sistema, come consigliato Lubuntu od altri leggeri, ovvero prima prova come gira e funziona da Live e in caso d'esito positivo l'installi, altrimenti chiedi lumi qui.
