GRUB Error 18 dopo riavvio per l'Installazione

Ragazzi, prima di tutto un saluto a tutta la comunità.

Ho un problema abbastanza grave. Sono un ignorante in questo campo dato che è la seconda volta che provo Linux.

Vorrei passare definitavamente a questo SO ma per vari problemi ci rinuncio sempre.

Allora, oggi ho scaricato l'.iso (ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso) e l'ho scritto su un CD.

Riavviato il PC e installato senza problemi.

Appena richiesto di riavviare non mi funziona più niente senza LiveCD.

Ho installato Ubuntu in un HD Esterno da un Tera mentre nell'HD interno da 150 GB che ho diviso in due parti ho WIndows XP Home Edition SP3.

ora, il problema è trattato on so quante volte ma preferirei parlare direttamente dei miei problemi in modo da risolvere anche prima perhè con le guide non ci ho capito nulla di nulla.

Un tera è troppo grande credo. Fai una partizione di 10 Gb all'inizio del disco, e assegna punto di mount / , poi la swap 2x ram minimo pari alla ram e poi il resto /home, tutto da partizionamento manuale.

 This error is returned when a read is attempted at a linear block address beyond the end of the BIOS translated area. This generally happens if your disk is larger than the BIOS can handle (512MB for (E)IDE disks on older machines or larger than 8GB in general).

Meglio tenere il disco esterno per i dati e quello interno per i sistemi operativi, salva tutto nel disco esterno e aggiungi una partizione di 10 Gb ed una da 1 Gb per la swap per Ubuntu.

Allora, ho prima fatto una partizione dando 250GB a Ubuntu e lasciando il resto ai file che erano già presenti.

Seconda volta che ci ho provato ho dato solo 50GB ma niente. Non me lo installa proprio e non mi fa patire nemmeno XP.

Ho dovuto reinstallare Windows XP per usare il PC, per fortuna non ho perso nessun dato.

Però non è vero che Linux è facile da installare, su 3 volte che l'ho instalalto, 3 volte ho avuto problemi, mentre con XP basta che metto il CD, seleziono se formattare o installare XP e va tutto alla perfezione

Vorrei passare a Linux solo per il fatto sicurezza altrimenti me ne starei bene bene qui su XP perchè ho programmi e tutto quello che mi serve oper lavorare perfettamente.

Quando installo, spunto "Manuale" nella scelta della partizione ma mi ha creato solo casini e non mi ha nemmeno installato Ubuntu perchè l'HD esterno non ha cartelle oltre quelle che avevo già.

Non c'è una guida passo passo per installarla?

la guida la trovi in documentazione, ma installare in un disco esterno è più difficile, tu non vuoi ascoltare i consigli.

Mi è successo anche a me e quando stavo per rinunciare ho provato a fare l'unica cosa che ancora non avevo fatto...spegnere completamente hd ext.(l'ho fatto rilevare ad Ubuntu una volta installato.) e installare Ubuntu su Hd interno e non mi ha più dato problema,prima l'errore era come il tuo GRUB Error 18 dopo riavvio per l'Installazione quindi se 2+2 fà 4 vedi te....
