Non ho ben capito cosa hai fatto. Hai provato ad installare gnome su un subsystem di linux sotto windows?

Premetto che non ho mai utilizzato wsl non avendo da anni un'installazione di Windows sul pc, ma ho dato un'occhiata alla guida che hai linkato.

A quanto pare se aggiorni wsl puoi installare applicazioni grafiche linux che si integreranno ai menu di sistema di Windows.

Anzitutto devi aprire una Powershell con diritti amministrativi ed aggiornare wsl

Al termine

Nel tuo secondo screenshot sembra che tu abbia tentato di eseguire un software senza averlo prima installato, quindi prova cosi.

Avvia wsl e poi

Quelli che tu chiami errori in realtà sono soltanto dei warning normalissimi che puoi ignorare, appaiono ogni qualvolta si esegue un'applicazione grafica da terminale.

Comunque hai ottenuto quello che prometteva la guida cioè hai installato ed eseguito gnome-text-editor che altri non è che quel semplice editor di testo che mostri nell'ultimo screenshot.
