Qualche giorno fa ho ricevuto la newsletter n. 2/2012 di Ubuntu ed ho avuto la malaugurata idea di provare Unity 5.0, secondo le indicazioni che qui riporto:
Un'opzione interessante prevede il cambio di colore del tema di Unity
stesso che, nella foto, è stato impostato a celeste.
Ricordiamo comunque che anche Unity 5.0 è totalmente personalizzabile
con il popolare tool MyUnity ( https://launchpad.net/myunity ).
Se ne siete affascinati, potrete provarlo ora sul vostro Ubuntu 11.10
(Oneiric Ocelot) installandolo facilmente, digitando questi tre
comandi in sucessione nel terminale:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Non l'ho tenuto, perché ho un pc vecchio e col quale di solito uso Unity 2d e così ho pensato di disinstallarlo secondo le loro indicazioni:
Se dopo averlo provato il vostro Unity non vi piace, potrete tornare
alla versione precedente digitando:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:unity-team/staging
}}}
Non l'avessi mai fatto!
Da allora riesco ad entrare solo con LXCE, ma con molte icone in meno.
Ho fatto un sacco di prove, che non riesco a ripetervi, finché ho reinstallato ubuntu-desktop.
Adesso ho di nuovo la possibilità di scegliere all'avvio tra Ubuntu e Ubuntu 2d, ma funziona malamente.
Ho riprovare a fare il reset, ma questo è quello che ottendo:
