[Install] update problem "..impossibile scaricare alcuni file di indice.."

premetto come sempre che sono un utente non esperto ma molto felice di Linux: uso parecchio l'interfaccia grafica, ma non mi spiace affatto quando posso capire quello che faccio e i comandi da terminale... ok, bona, vado al sodo:

ho aggiornato da qualche settimana ormai ubuntu da 7.04 a 7.10 e... beh tutto è iniziato che volevo installare Cowbell come editor id3 perchè con Rythmbox ho dei problemi... e non c'è Cowbell nelle liste Synaptic... fatte un pò di ricerche, credevo fosse un problema di Repository Universe non abilitato, ma invece tutti i Repository sono abilitati... allora dovrò forse aggiornare le liste? ok tento... ma non funzia, cioè che tenti l'aggiornamento del sistema da Synaptic o dal terminale con sudo apt-get update quel che ne traggo è

E: Impossibile scaricare alcune file di indice, essi verranno ignorati, oppure si useranno quelli precedenti.

perchè?
cioè, che significa?
e che posso fare?
può essere un problema di hardware perchè il pc è molto datato?
in tal caso è forse il caso di tornare alla 7.04 con cui non avevo mai avuto problemi?

In fondo all' indirizzo web dei repository c'è la parola Release che è di troppo.

come ottengo la sources.list?

Per editare e poterlo salvare:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

gedit è l'editor di testo, se non usi gnome sostituiscilo con kate o nano o vi.

Per leggere un file, il comando è cat:

se sì, anche i Backports, Proposed e Canonical Commercial? (cosa sono?)

allora... ho messo i repository suggerity qui http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Repository/So ... ceslist%29 ma non i Backports, Proposed e Canonical Commercial che non so che sono
ora Cowbell è nelle liste ma comunque sia il comando sudo apt-get update ottiene in fondo alla lista che compare

e l'aggiornamento con il gestore d'aggiornament,i dopo tutto il suo processo di verifica, coerentemente mostra in una pop-up window la stessa lista di impossibilità
