Da un paio di giorni l'icona synaptic degli aggiornamenti rimane sempre attiva e spostandosi sopra con il mouse appare il messaggio:
"Questo significa che in genere i pacchetti installati presentano dipendenze irrisolte"
Ho eseguito quindi i seguenti passi:
- Verificato le sources.list e sostituite con quelle "funzionanti"
- con il comando dpkg -l da terminale ottengo:
dpkg-query: errore di formato, nel file `/var/lib/dpkg/status' vicino alla riga 1:
il nome del campo `0' deve essere seguito da ':' (due punti)
- ho provato apt-get clean ma niente
- ho provato apt-get update ma alla fine esce il seguente messaggio:

Lettura della lista dei pacchetti in corso... Errore!
E: Impossibile analizzare il file dei pacchetti /var/lib/dpkg/status (1)
E: La lista dei pacchetti o il file di status non possono essere letti o aperti.

che credo derivi dal fatto che c'è una istanza synaptic in corso che non termina mai.

Qualcuno sa come risolvere?

Visto che nessuno si fa vivo riposto..
Ho provato anche a rimuovere un pacchetto  e ottengo sempre lo stesso risultato:

renzo@renzo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get uninstall wicd
[sudo] password for renzo:
E: Operazione non valida uninstall
renzo@renzo-laptop:~$ man apt-get
renzo@renzo-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get remove wicd
Lettura della lista dei pacchetti in corso... Errore!
E: Impossibile analizzare il file dei pacchetti /var/lib/dpkg/status (1)
E: La lista dei pacchetti o il file di status non possono essere letti o aperti.

Ma come si può ricreare la lista dei pacchetti???

Risolto.
Il file  /var/lib/dpkg/status era corrotto.
Le copie di bachkup si trovano in  /var/backups/dpkg.status.xxx

Così è bastato il comando:
sudo cp /var/backups/dpkg.status.0 /var/lib/dpkg/status
a risolvere il tutto.
