si ma il problema non è la swap..è che tenendo solo aperto firefox e pidgin ariva a usare più di 700 mega di ram e se apro un paio di applicazioni più "pesanti" mi freeza tutto costringendomi ad un riavvio forzato

Ti freeza perché non avevi la swap.

Comunque anche io ho consumi alti di ram, ma se faccio partire diverse applicazioni pesanti semplicemente sfrutta 30-50 mb di swap.

grazie mille ora nn freeza più..avrei ancora una domanda..ma come mai utilizza comunque così tanta ram?..quasi il doppio rispetto alla 32bit..è un comportamento anomalo o rientra nelle "caratteristiche" di questa architettura?

io ho una 32 bit e anche a me usa tanta ram...

però in effetti qualcosa che non va c'è. Per esempio stai usando ben 287 mb di swap, non è normale.

infatti un po' mi preoccupava questo uso eccessivo. Come puoi leggere sopra, su un'altra partizione ho la 8.10 a 32bit e il consume è la metà..e anche con una debian testing..Hai qualche ipotesi del perchè sia così altro l'utiliazzo della ram?..posso provare a fare qualcosa per diagnosticare il problema e tentare di ridurlo?

con aperte 2 finestre di Epiphany, 2 sessioni di emesene, amarock (nessun file riprosotto), kmixer, UbuDSL, kClipper su Kubuntu 8.04 amd64 KDE 3.5, ma non vedo il sistema come lento

È normale ciò?

intanto mi sembra che xorg usi troppa ram. Che scheda grafica hai?
E poi vedo due istanze di xorg... anche se questo non significa che occupi il doppio della ram.

infatti perchè se termino quello con l'id più altro non diminuisce il consumo di ram..ho una ati radeon X600 con i driver fglrx suggeriti da ubuntu..(ma stessa configurazione identica anche sulla 32 bit)

sulla 32bit che consumo hai di xorg?

allora sono passato su quella a 32bit..xorg utilizza circa 75mb di ram (le due istanze utiliazzano la stessa ram)..

mmm... c'è una bella differenza tra 7.3% e 17% per xorg.

Ma questo da solo non giustifica il comportamento della 64bit e quell'uso di swap.

COmunque fai una prova. Togli i driver fglrx e usa quelli open, vediamo che succede.

La radeon x600 è supportata dai driver open con tanto di 3d.

si lo so ma andava leggermente a scatti compiz e gli effetti coi driver open..domani farò come mi hai dettoe ti dirò cosa succede..ora devo staccare..grazie mille per l'aiuto..a domani..buonanotte!

allora ho disinstallato i driver fglrx ma non ho notato nessuna differenza sostanziale..(trenne che non ci sono più le 2 sistanze di xorg)

..quindi mi pare che il problema non siano i driver fglrx

be', intanto vedi che non ti usa swap? apri anche openoffice e un altro paio di programmi.

xò c'è da dire che prima con tutti questi programmi aperti non manifestava nessun sintomo di rallentamento e lo riuscivo ad usare prefettamente..mentre ora è diventato completamente inusabile..le finestre lasciano la "scia".. e si blocca quasi tutt...ci ho messo 5 min buoni per riuscire a premere col tasto destro su compiz icon e selezionare matacity ed ora sto riuscendo a scrivere questo messaggio

e lo so ma mi sembra che i driver fglrx a 64bit facciano qualche scherzetto, almeno nel tuo caso.

fossi in te installerei la versione 32bit, almeno per provare.

scusa ma non ho capito. Sull'altra partizione avevo già la 32 bit su cui abbiamo fatto delle prove..

avevo capito che era un altro pc...

quindi la 32 non ti dà problemi, giusto?
