esattamente..configurata allo stesso modo..con i driver fglrx attivati..e funziona al 100% anche con tanti programmi aperti

allora temo che il problema siano proprio i fglrx 64bit

io invece non credo..perchè adesso non sono attivi e xorg sta usando 180mb di ram e l'uso totale di ram è 600mb con solo firefox e pidgin aperti (e senza compiz)

9.3%di 1 gb fa 93 mb, più o meno. Non 180.

quello era appena appena acceso..ora che avevo aperto tutti quei programmi e li ho chiusi tutti l'output di ps aux è questo:

e ma quindi se il problema non sono i driver..anzi è meglio coi driver attivati..a cosa è da imputare questo uso eccessivo di ram da parte di xorg?..forse è necessario + di 1gb di ram per usare un sistema a 64bit?

comunque il problema sembra proprio xorg

mmm grazie lo stesso.. un ultima domanda..secondo te è meglio tenere la 64bit con l'inconveniente di utilizzare molta ram e fare uso frequente della swap..oppure migrare tutto ai 32 bit?

devi aprire un bug su launchpad, comunque visto che ci stai, reinstalla la 64bit e vedi se si presenta di nuovo il problema, se sìapri il bug.

ok..per no perdere tutte le impostazioni..se io copio la cartella home (di tt e 2 gli utenti) su un altra partiazione..poi reinstallo e sovrascrivo la home con quella che mi sono copiato mi ritrovo tutte le impostazioni a posto?

sì, l'importante è che coincidano i nomi degli utenti.
Ovviamente in fase di installazione devi indicare qual è la partizione home, quindi devi scegliere partizionamento manuale.

e se invece io non creo una partizione per la home..ma semplicemente sovrascrivo la cartella home della nuova installazione con quella di adesso?

va bene lo stesso, ma ti consiglio di fare un backup di tutto in un file tar, perché la semplice copia può farti problemi con alcuni nomi di file lunghi.

ok allora adesso mi ci metto..faccio un backup della home, del sources.list e del menu.lst di grub..c'è qualcos'altro di cui poter avere bisogno per rendere la nuova installazione identica a questa?
