[Install] installazione da rete nuovo utente problemi

Salve a tutti, sono relativamente nuovo con ubuntu, quindi non conosco molto riguardo a reti ed altro, vorrei esporvi il mio problema. Il portatile di mio fratello, un vecchio toshiba, p4 ha un problema con il suo lettore, ha cercato di reinstallare xp, ma niente, ho cercato di installare ubuntu, ma nemmeno legge il cd (masterizzato alla velocità minima) quindi avrei deciso di fare un'installazione via rete, attraverso il mio fisso. Cerco di seguire questa guida,
http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Installazione/DaRete ma già da subito riscontro dei problemi. appena do il comando
come al passo 3 il terminale mi da questo output:

Basta che confronti la fine del file con il wiki:

righe con cancelletto non vengono lette, sono commenti o opzioni inattive. Togli i primi due caratteri...

mi appare questo:

sono riuscito ad aprire il file syslog. a quanto pare dhcpd non è configurato

scusami, sono molto niubbo, ti puoi spiegare meglio? devo dare il comando che suggerisci? e poi? io non sono collegato a un router, ma a un modem ethernet, e vorrei installare ubuntu da rete su un portatile usando il mio fisso come server

anche con il modem si connette in dhcpd, prova a dare il comando. Ma sul resto so niente, che l'ho mai fatto..
