Non credo che tu debba allarmarti tanto: se lo smonti poi al prox riavvio lo rimonta da sè oppure lo puoi rimontare da Risorse > Computer.
Ma non sono poi così sicuro, apettiamo qualche altra risposta...

per un problema ho dovuto reinstallare windows sempre sulla stessa partizione da 12 GB..... ora all'avvio è  come se ubuntu non ci fosse più tanto è che non mi da più il menu di scelta del sistema da avviare.. ho pensato bisognasse fare di nuovo il procedimento ma dando i comandi che prima mi avevano funzionato adesso ottengo questi risultati
root@ubuntu:~# cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
cat: /boot/grub/menu.lst: No such file or directory

mentre se provo con:sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
mi apre un file di testo vuoto........ per voi che può essere successo? da gparted risulta che nella partizione da 44 gb (dove c'è linux) c'è ancora installato tutto infatti mi dice usati 28 GB e liberi 16

ma questi comandi li dai da livecd ? se si devi andare a cercare con nautilus nella partizione sda1 il /boot/grub/menu.lst altrimenti ottieni quello del livecd.
