Salve a tutti , oggi ho installato Ubuntu 8.10 sul mio computer, dividendo la partizione in due, in una ho lasciato windows xp e nell'altra ho installato Linux , però ora all'avvio il boot mi vede solo linux , come posso riabilitare windows ?

windows è nella sda1 o nella sda5 ?

credo nella sd5 perchè è l'unica che ha ntfs come file system...

sda1 e sda5 coincidono.
sd1 è estesa e sda5 è logica.

Montala da Ubuntu e vedi cosa c'è dentro.

sono entrato in sistema , dentro computer mi risulta " supporto da 153 gb" però se provo ad entrare mi dice " impossibile montare la posizione" .. come ci sia finito non ne ho idea ...

avevi forse due partizioni di windows tipo C e D? in quel caso potrebbe essere che hai sovrascritto C con ubuntu

esattamente , io avevo una partizione da 153 gb con windows xp e un altra da 7 vuota formattata in ntfs , durante l'installazione ho cancellato quella da sette e da essa ne ho create altre tre una da 4 per la root , 3 per la home e 1 per la swap .. però sono sicuro di non aver neanche toccato quella da 153 ntfs ne aver messo un segno di spunta in formatta ...

ok facciamo subito una prova, apri un terminale e scrivi:
gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
poi posta il contenuto ( in teoria nel tuo menu.lst l'installazione di ubuntu avrebbe dovuto automaticamente inserire il boot di windows)

Ma... windows non può stare su partizione logica... monta la sa partizione da ROOT:
sudo mkdir /media/win
mount /dev/ /media/win

ok ok ecco il contenuto ..

se faccio sudo mkdir /media/win mi dice "nessun file o directory"

non hai /media...
sudo mkdir /media

ovviamente sostituisci a /sda5

(usa pastebin.ubuntu.com per incollare i file lunghi e copia il link sennò riempe una pagina inutilmente)

cosi esce..

Con lo spazio:

comunque riapri grub con sudo questa volta:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
e metti sotto l'ultima riga: poi salva e riavvia, al riavvio vedi se riesce a caricare windows, altrimenti andremo a vedere cosa c'è in sda5

Io son rimasto che Win non parte su partizione logica... sarò rimasto all'età della pietra con Win (risposta: si)

allora prima ho fatto come mi ha detto blupenguin , aggiungendo quel codice a menu.lst , però niente mi dice "richiesta invalida" quando provo a riavviare e a selezionare xp ...
ora ho provato a fare come dice r3dkn16h7  , e dal terminale ho dato sudo mkdir /media/disk

e mi da :
