Salve a tutti sono un nuovo utente e sto diventando ubuntu dipendente.
Ho aggiornato da 8.10 a 9.04 il mio sistema operativo attraverso l'aggiornamento automatico. Nella versione precedente funzionava tutto fuorchè la porta wi fi.
Ora funziona tutto esclusa la porta ethernet. Ho l'impressione che sia stata disattivata da ubuntu, ho provato con pppoeconf ma mi dice che non riceve alcuna risposta dal server o che c'è un'altra istanza che occupa il pppoe. Un'amico sostiene che la cosa migliore sarebbe scaricare la iso di ubuntu 9.04 e reinstallarlo dal cd.
Ma porca miseria vuoi che non esista qualche stringhetta del magico "sudo" che riattiva il tutto?
Qualcuno di voi può aiutarmi?
Premetto che con vista purtroppo tutto funziona e io non voglio dargliela vinta.

è una linea internet v wifi, in sostanza è un'azienda che me la manda via radio la e4a. NOn credo però questo possa essere un problema, in quanto ho provato con il computer di un mio amico  che aveva installata la versione 8.04 e si connetteva.In ogni caso ora provo le stringhe che mi hai postato nella speranza che siano magiche. ti faccio sapere grazie di cuore.

per ora su network manager non c'è traccia di ethernet,questi comandi servono a vedere che tipo di scheda hai e eventuli

la tua scheda è una     NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

il modulo che la fa funzionare si chiama "tg3" e sembra caricato,  per essere sicuri,  apri un terminale e digita  (copia e incolla)
se ti risponde il modulo è caricato, allora prova
attivi l'interfaccia eth0
verifichi la presenza di etho
richiesta di parametri di connessione al dispositivo con il quale ti colleghi, sempre che tu non debba andare con un ip statico.

e infine

ps.    lspci senza sudo, solo    lspci        (lista delle periferiche pci)

procedura effettuata ma con poco successo mi sa che come dici tu c'è un ip statico oppure non so sono troppo ignorante

i parametri che mi sono stati forniti sono i seguenti:

va bene ,prova, a cliccare con il destro sull'icona dei due computer, in alto a destra, e vai su modifica connessioni, cablata,e aggiungi la connessione.
devi crearti una tua connessione con i parametri che ti sono stati forniti, li metti su impostazioni ipv4. sotto "metodo" metti in manuale.
la scheda è riconosciuta, ti devi connettere con ip statico. il dhcp non funziona.

ma la pppoe l'hai fatta tu ?  mica ho capito dove attacchi il cavo ethernet,usi nome utente e password per connetterti?

ti installano un loro apparato sul tetto della casa per la ricezione del segnale. Non serve password, se non hai un'antenna con id non puoi accere alla loro linea. Il cavo ethernet va connesso ad una scatolina collegata direttamente all'antenna.
La linea non è velocissima ma sicura  e mai intasata. In questo modo non serve avere una marea di kb al secondo e dulcis in fundo costa solo 18 euro al mese. Logicamente costa un po' l'nstallazione ma si ammortizza in meno di un'anno senza canoni e balle varie, solo ed esclusivamente 18 euro al mese. Sono contentissimo, appena potrò connettermi con ubuntu andrò alla grande.

dimentivavo,  devi mettere anche il dns , sotto impostazioni ipv4, se sai quale mettere ok, altrimenti metti

208.67.222.222    oppure  208.67.220.220      che sono quelli open, dovrebbero funzionare con tutti.   

Allora.
Ti ringrazio fin d'ora per la squisita e velocissima collaborazione, che in ogni caso ha dato esito positivo. Purtroppo e per fortuna, però, aveva ragione il mio amico "veggente" il quale, pur non vantando grandi qualità di programmatore, ci aveva come si suol dire "visto giusto".
In sostanza era nata una sorta di "bug" in seguito all'upgrade da me fatto direttamente dalla gestione aggiornamenti:
Ubuntu aveva "corrotto" qualche file rendendo inagibile la scheda ethernet anche se in realtà, in seguito ai test fatti, dava esiti positivi.
Quindi ho deciso di seguire il suo consiglio, cosa che avrei dovuto fare fin da subito, ma si sa, la pigrizia vince sugli stolti.
Ho inserito il CD e ho provato la macchina con la LIVE di UBUNTU, riscontrando un perfetto funzionamento totale della macchina.
In soldoni: Grazie a "fabisa" per aver postato la sua procedura qualora dovesse servire ai posteri e per aver offerto la sua grande disponibilità, grazie al mio amico veggente per il suo ODIOSISSIMO ma infallibile intuito e soprattutto:
NON LASCIAMOCI INGANNARE DALLA PIGRIZIA E DAL GESTORE AGGIORNAMENTI.

W ubuntu alla faccia di winzoz

probabilmente avevi il file  /etc/network/interfaces  incasinato, e non ti permetteva la connessione con network manager,
si poteva anche fare una connessione solo impostando quel file, senza network manager, o con wicd.
comunque anche io preferisco l'installazione da cd, faccio il back-up della home, reinstallo i programmi che uso e mi
riprendo i dati che mi servono , il tutto in meno di 2 ore, e ogni volta mi ritrovo con 2 o 3 gigabyte di spazio libero in più.
