By default, sparse SOURCE files are detected by a crude heuristic and the
corresponding DEST file is made sparse as well.  That is the behavior
selected by --sparse=auto.  Specify --sparse=always to create a sparse DEST
file whenever the SOURCE file contains a long enough sequence of zero bytes.
Use --sparse=never to inhibit creation of sparse files.

The backup suffix is `~', unless set with --suffix or SIMPLE_BACKUP_SUFFIX.
The version control method may be selected via the --backup option or through
the VERSION_CONTROL environment variable.  Here are the values:

  none, off       never make backups (even if --backup is given)
  numbered, t     make numbered backups
  existing, nil   numbered if numbered backups exist, simple otherwise
  simple, never   always make simple backups

As a special case, cp makes a backup of SOURCE when the force and backup
options are given and SOURCE and DEST are the same name for an existing,
regular file.

Ora sudo veramente

Quello è per fare una copia del file ma tu sei in leve e non puoi scrivere sul CD. 
Salta il passaggio, parti da qui poi modifica mettendo questi parametri Ti ho messo 1024x768 come risoluzione.
Mi sono appena ricordata che sulla 9.04 non si riesce più a riavviare x con CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE quindi fai come per spegnere e scegli termina sessione.

La risoluzione che mi hai dato è quella giusta!
Ho bisogno di una tua conferma quando apporto le modifiche devo cancellare i paramentri prcedenti Section "Device"  Identifier "Configured Video Device" End Section  Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured  Monitor" EndSection ?

Fai così: elimina questo e metti qiesto alla riga dovresti mettere la tua scheda video.  Credo che basti mettere

ho rifatto più volte, seguendo pedissequamente (rotfl)  (rotfl)le istruzioni, ma non sono riuscito ad impostare lo schermo, anche se come  hai ben intuito,  è proprio un 1024x768.
Ho un dubbio: se  mi trovo in live, dov'è che vengono slavate le modifiche (sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf) che faccio nel terminale?

Sarebbe il caso di installare e modificare successivamente? :-[

Dubbio legittimo a cui non so rispondere.... Forse il file è caricato in ram e viene modificato lì. Di certo quello sul CD resta intatto.

OK, installa. poi per prima cosa fatti una copia del file xorg.conf con questo comando

ciao a tutti,
ho sovrascritto jaunty su ibex, ho poi risolto i disturbi grafici con l'opzione nessun effetto grafico.
Dopo aver fatto sudo cp /etc ...conf.backup  ho dunque digitato sudo gedit /etc/X11/org.conf e mi si è aperto un percorso nuovo, che dico, un'autostrada:

barra superiore con org.conf (/etc/X11) - gedit
poi i comandi File Modifica, varie icone sul tipo windows, veramente notevole,

ed infine un foglio  bianco da riempire sul quale io che ho a mala pena digerito il terminale di ibex non so cosa scrivere.
Il mio sudo dove è andato a finire??

Se hai digitato

sudo gedit /etc/X11/org.conf

ti credo che si è aperto un foglio bianco. Chiudilo. Manca una x. Hai creato un file nuovo.

Prima di continuare postami il risultato di questo voglio essere sicura che ci sia una copia di backup. 

Il video va ancora male quindi?

Con l'opzione grafica indispensabile direi che va bene, certo il cubo non gira

e questo che intendevi? pero la risoluzione dello schermo non è cambiata.

No, volevo postassi il risultato di questo Hai riavviato X (termina sessione) dopo aver modificato lo xorg.conf?
Poi io al posto di Intel 82815 metterei solo Intel.

strano ma il terminale non reagisce all'ultimo comando

OK. ora dai questo comando per creare un file di nome insertmtrr ti si aprirà un foglio bianco (stavolta è giusto così  ); copiaci dentro questo salva e chiudi.

Puoi anche fare copia/incolla dei comandi se sei connesso con quel PC.

risposta:  /proc/mtrr:  permesso  negato

Ho però un dubbio che potrebbe spiegare molte cose: mi sono accorto (ho aperto unaltro argomento sul forum " jaunty - grub troppo affollato" o qualcosa del genere.)
..... di aver ancora tutte le versioni kernel della 8.10
