Avanzamento di versione d 10.04 a 10.10. server X non si avvia e serie di errori

Avevo la versione LTS di ubuntu che non mi aveva mai dato nessun problema e non avevo intenzione di upgradare.
Qualche giorno fa, dopo un aggiornamento del kernel, ho avuto problemi con la scheda di rete wireless che è una BROADCOM che ha dei problemi di interfacciamento con il kernel linux 2.6.35+. Una delle soluzioni era quella di avviare un solo core del processore con il comando:

Ma questa era una pezza a colori e dopo ogni aggiornamento di grub il comando (ovviamente) spariva.
Così ho deciso di fare l'avanzamento di versione.
Purtroppo sto avendo più problemi del previsto.
Come prima cosa vi informo che le console funzionano.

Quando avvio ubuntu il server X non riesce a caricarsi e rimane l'immagine di splash con i relativi moduli caricato o meno....
Se faccio il login da una console tutto ok.
Provo ad avviare il server x e questo è l'output:

Avanzare di versione non è mai consigliato, in quanto, come hai visto, hai avuto più problemi che benefici... per i tuoi problemi che hai denunciato, forse era il caso di aprire un topic apposito e ti avremmo aiutato senza bisogno di avanzare...

Per quanto riguarda l'avanzamento di versione anche io sono del parere che non è la miglior cosa da fare, ma in quella situazione ho detto dato che avrei dovuto formattare per installare la versione più aggiornata di ubuntu proviamo prima a fare l'avanzamento tanto mal che vada formatto (che è quello che avrei fatto comunque).

In ogni caso (come regola vuole) ho una partizione dell hdd dedicata alla home quindi l'unico fastidio è reinstallare i programmi che avevo, poi i vari file di configurazione personalizzati vengono prelevati dalla home.

Quindi mi consigli di reinstallare?
Non provo proprio a risolvere il problema?

Beh, questo è un Forum, non una chat... non puoi pretendere che ti si diano risposte veloci... in ogni caso, se vuoi evitare di perdere programmi e configurazioni dopo il passaggio da una versione all'altra, il mio consiglio è quello di installare con la Home separata...

L'unica mia perplessità riguarda il fatto che dal kernel 2.6.37 in poi, non funzionano i driver per la scheda di rete wireless.
Dato che il computer su cui devo installare è un notebook, non avere la scheda di rete è un grosso problema.

Stesso identico problema ,ho fatto esattamente il tuo percorso cioè forzatamente sono passato alla 10.10 anche se avevo deciso di rimanere con la lts ma anche la 10.10 non funziona in pratica non funziona il server X ,stesso messaggio che hai tu.
in ogni caso ho cercato risposte come hai fatto tu ,girovagando e chiedendo nei vari forum e altro ma nisba ,pare che nessun guru sappia il problema ,io ho semplicemente risolto il problema installando Fedora .

In realtà io ora sto usando arch linux che avevo indual boot e sta andando tutto bene tranne il problema della scheda di rete che a quanto ho capito è un problema di tutti kernel linux indipendentemente dalla distribuzione..(ma non vorreio dire una corbelleria :) )

Al momento sono indeciso se aspettare l'uscita di ubuntu 11.04 o installare direttamente archlinux e aspettare che fixino il problema con un nuovo kernel.

L'altra opzione sarebbe installre ubuntu 10.10 con un kernel più datato e sperare che vada tutto bene...
Non so sono veramente nel pallone.
Da quando ho scoperto il mondo Linux ne sono rimasto esterrefatto, ed ho completamente abbandonato windows, ma quest'ultimo problema mi ha lasciato alquanto interdetto! Non è possibile che all'improvviso una device che ha sempre funzionato bene con un kernel, con la versione successiva non funziona più, e sopratutto ti costringe a formattare e a perdere tempo a reinstallare etc..

Io sono passato momentaneamente a Fedora sperando che risolvano il problema, o meglio che qualcuno ne parli ,parlo del video  cioè il mio problema in quanto la scheda di rete non mi ha dato problemi.
Sicuramente non è stato sufficente l'avanzamento da 10.04 a 10.10 in quanto andava solo da shell ma forse era necessario formattare ,cosa che non ho fatto ma se così fosse mi sembra di tornare a windows che ogni tanto tutti sanno che bisogna per forza formattare .
Sicuramente non tornerò più a windows che ho abbandonato da molti anni ma sto valutando altre distro ,Ubuntu mi piace ancora molto ma purtroppo incomincia a diventare piuttosto pesante e ogni volta che faccio un aggiornamento devo sperare che non ci siano sorprese.
