sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm nel menu che ti appare seleziona lightdm dopo

sudo service  gdm stop

sudo service lightdm start

se ancora non va sudo killall Xorg (dovrebbe ripartire in automatico)

Avessi immaginato ti avrei detto di darlo prima quando te l'ha detto l'altro ragazzo magari funzionava e risparmiavi fatica, comunque tutto bene quel che finisce bene  ;)

Ma scusa se scarica il CD di Ubuntu 11.10, entri in modalita Live CD, ti salvi tutti i dati in un HDD esterno e poi installi tutto da capo dal CD?

mi viene più semplice aggiustarlo, e poi non ho l'hard disk

bisogna capire perchè non parte x vediamo se il log ci aiuta cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

ps di tutti i comandi sopra ti serve solo startx

Non saprei al momento non mi viene in mente nulla :-\

Prova rimuovendo con sudo rm -f /tmp/.X0-lock e poi Xorg :0 -configure ma non ci sperare troppo

Prova a fare questo tentativo sudo nano /etc/default/grub

trova la riga GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" e aggiungi nomodeset

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"

salva con crtl + o esci con crtl +x

poi sudo update-grub e riavvia

ciao helloj, ho provato a fare tutte le modifiche da te proposte ma alla fine penso che reinstallerò...
ora ho due problemi:
non ho fatto il backup di evolution.. posso farlo da shell?
se entro con livecd non ho i permessi per aprire le cartelle dell'utente superuser (quello mio), se copio le cartelle su hd esterno e poi le ricopio dopo installazione nuova riesco ad aprirle? (creando n utente con lo stesso nome del precedente)
mah che casino ho fatto oh >:(
