per l'immagine è facilissimo, metti il file .xpm.gz in /boot/grub, poi gli cambi i permessi:

allora ho riprovato l'immagine si trova dentro una cartella "splashimages" in boot/grub  ora ho riaperto menu.lst ho modificato l'immagine
prendendo spunto dal tuo menu.lst l'unica cosa cambiata è che il grub adesso è in bianco e nero non più con il fondo blu e testo bianco

ps: il pc è ripartito con riavvia quindi il pericolo che non riparta è scongiurato.

edit: quando provo a spostare l'immagine in boot/grub dice accesso negato impossibile scrivere su /boot/grub

sarebbe tutto ok l'unico problema è quello dell'immagine che non si carica.

Penso che nessuno abbia letto fino in fondo il file che hai postato visto che nessuno ti ha fatto notare che hai queste tre righe:

che hai scopiazzato da qualche guida per installare awn e chissà in che modo hai incollato nel file menu.lst.

Quando si modifica un file di sistema (quelli che si aprono utilizzando i privilegi di root) lo si fa con cognizione di causa, altrimenti si va incontro a problemi come il tuo.

Ho notato che molti per postare il file dicono di usare comandi come:
sudo kate /boot/grub/menu.lst
o
sudo cat /boot/grub/menu.lst

In tutti e due i casi l'uso di sudo è inutile perché il file /boot/grub/menu.lst non è protetto da lettura (può quindi essere aperto con qualsiasi editor) e può essere dannoso se inavvertitamente cancelliamo qualcosa.

Ultima cosa: se vuoi cambiare lo splash del boot (io quando si parla di immagine di boot intendo il kernel) installa startupmanager (devi aver abilitato i repository universe) così ti metti a riparo da errori del genere.

Ultima cosa: se vuoi cambiare lo splash del boot (io quando si parla di immagine di boot intendo il kernel) installa startupmanager (devi aver abilitato i repository universe) così ti metti a riparo da errori del genere.

Ciao Max avevo notato quelle  tre righe  (mistermax80 in un altra board me l'aveva fatto notare,) alle quali non ho dato peso, le devo eliminare? o meglio le posso eliminare senza creare problemi ad AWN?

Le prime due sono gli indirizzi dei repository di awn mentre la terza è il comando per scaricare la chiave gpg e aggiungerla al keyring.

Prova a far partire startupmanager da terminale e segna gli eventuali errori.

non saprei dirti evidentemente quando ho installato awn ma proprio non sò  ???

Risolto: ho inserito l'immagine a grub con startupmanager facendolo partire da terminale con:

sudo startumanager

ps: ultima cosa oltre alla lista dei sistemi operativi in grub in fondo appare una piccola diciamo guida
tipo spostare la barra per scegliere il sisteama (non dirà proprio cosi ma per farti capire) comunque quelle 4/5 righe si possono eliminare?
