Salve!
Purtroppo ho dovuto reinstallare ubuntu edgy su notebook sony vaio. In fase di installazione come al solito non mi ha riconosciuto la wifi. Dovrei scaricare network-manager dal cdrom di installazione. Mi chiede di inserirlo quindi premere invio. Eseguo ma non parte. Sapete dirmi perchè? Devo montare il cdrom? E se è così potete gentilmente indicarmi il comando da eseguire da terminale? Grazie. mandy

Rileggendo la documentazione eseguo da terminale il comando "sudo mount /media/cdrom" e il terminale mi risponde "special device /dev/hdb does not exist. Mi sembra di capire che la devo creare. Il comando per creare una directory è mkdir. Quindi se non ho capito male devo spostarmi all'interno della directory dev con il comando
cd /dev. A questo punto devo dare il comando mkdir /hdb.
Ps Niente da fare. Non mi riesce.

Tutte le guide che ho trovato con google mi riportano a network-manager. Ora non so il perchè ma non riesco ad installare network-manager da cd. Forse il cdrom del sony-vaio non funziona con ubuntu anche se mi sembra strano avendolo installato. La mia domanda è questa: avendo un pc fisso posso scaricare in altro modo network-manager portarlo sulla penna usb e installarlo sul portatile? Se la risposta è si da dove posso scaricarlo?
Scusa Janvitus ma il comando che mi hai suggerito non so come interpretarlo...

per la carità metti dmesg tra i tag code...
se non sai come fare selezioni il tutto il testo che appartiene a dmesg e poi clicchi sul # che c'è sopra alle emoticons così sarà più facile per noi leggere

Forse non ti apre in automatico il cd prova ad entrare tramite nautilus ,risorse-computer dovrebbe esserci l'icona del cdrom ci clicchi sopra

inserisci un cd e poi da terminale prova :

provane un po... da sempre errore?
Se almeno uno non da errore,dopo aver eseguito questo, vai in /media/cdrom e scrivi ls -l : vedi il contenuto del cdrom?
la cartella /media/cdrom esiste???
