ti e'' andata male..hehe il supporto per gli ipw3945 c''e'' a partire dal kernel 2.6.15-26..che puoi benissimo installare..e'' nei repository della dapper
ti basta installare quella versione del kernel con synaptic e sei a posto
un altra cosa..quella versione di ieee802100 e'' vecchia..devi compilare la 1.2.15
Ho installato tramite synaptic il kernel 2.6.15-27-386.
Ho cancellato sempre con synaptic tutto cio'' che ho trovato dei pacchetti ieee80211 vecchi e poi mi sono scaricato ieee80211-1.2.15 :

anche il kernel che hai scaricato e' gia' impostato per gli ipw3945..non riesci ad installarlo perche' sono gia' installati gli ieee80211 (b2b)

ma gli ieee80211 non sono programmi..o driver pacchettizzati che scarichi via apt(non ci sono con module-assistant)..sono dei moduli del kernel
appunto dico..li hai gia'..io non so piu' come spiegartelo...che dal 2.6.15-26 i driver ipw3945 sono presenti e funzionanti (b2b)

ipw3945d-2.6.17-10-386
sono tutti presenti in /sbin...e tutti delle installazioni precedenti..che infatti funzionano
ora uso il 2.6.19.1 e li ho installati a mano..

bene siamo a buon punto..ora credo che manchi ipw3945.ucode nella directory /lib/firmware/tuo_kernel e poi dovresti essere a posto
apri il file /etc/rc.local ed inserisci questo
ipw3945d-2.6.15-27-386
al riavvio il led dovrebbe cominciare a blinkare e puoi lanciare sudo wlassistant o wifi-radar per impostare la chiave wep e tutto il resto

Si, è a posto.Ho riavviato e tramite Wireless-Assistant di Kubuntu ho rilevato una rete wireless.

ma manca fisicamente l''access point..sicuro che il demone ipw3945d sta funzionando?(quello che nella guida va messo in /sbin) e sicuro anche che il firmware e'' stato inserito nella dir corretta?
per la compilazione..io vedo solo un tar..perche'' dopo la scompattazione nn vedo nessun comando?..che comando gli hai dato?
il subsystem sebbene gia'' installato meglio metterlo in /usr/src e compilarlo col solito "make && make install"
scusa per te sembra facile ma come mi muovo e come faccio a metere tutti questi file nelle dir giusta?
per favore poi fare un piccolo esempio

ipw3945d che va a finire in /sbin
ipw3945.ucode che va a finire in /lib/firmware/tuo_kernel
e ipw3945,che sono i driver veri e propi,che si compilano e si caricano nel kernel con modprobe
