[Xorg] nouveau_vieux_dri.so : no such file or directory

so già che mi prenderò una strigliata xché di sicuro la soluzione già è spiegata in qualche post, ma ho cercato di qua e di là sul forum senza riuscire a decidere cosa sia meglio fare, provato tutti i limitati mezzi a mia disposizione (con la netta impressione di aver peggiorato le cose...), googlato con la frase di cui sopra trovando soluzioni non adatte al caso (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/537721 e collegati, oppure http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1590367&page=3). In pratica dopo l'ultimo aggiornamento xubuntu si apre solo in modalità grafica di emergenza avvertendoti: "AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/nouveau_vieux_dri.so failed - /usr/lib/dri/nouveau_vieux_dri.so: cannot open ecc. ecc. : no such file or directory - reverting to software rendering
il problema non è nuovo e sembra che dobbiamo ringraziare nvidia, né si può prendersela con xubuntu che, logicamente, fa volentieri a meno di compiz (sembra infatti di capire che il file in questione serva a questo scopo).
vorrei disinstallare questi driver per tornare alla configurazione precedente che funzionava alla perfezione - 10.04, ecco alcuni warning tratti dai vari files log dell'altroieri:

e così via per 5 MB , solo oggi;
premesso che non trovo nessun file Xorg.conf da modificare per inserire nv al posto di nouveau come indicato da qualche parte nel ns. forum, vi chiedo una dritta per disinstallare questo malefico nouveau-vieux e tornare alla funzionalità consueta. Eleganza non indispensabile, anche la forza bruta purché non si arrivi al martello sul monitor. Grazie e auguri a tutti!
