Ciao a tutti,

vorrei provare ad abilitare compiz...so che ho una scheda datata ma con 8.10 ero riuscito a farlo ( non ricordo come ).

Posso solo dire che:

Ho la stessa scheda video sul mio vecchio hp (Compaq nx6125)
Come ti dice il terminale, devi installare i driver fglrx.
Intanto vedi se in Sistema-->Amministrazione-->Driver Hardware ti compaiono questi driver ed in caso abilitali da lì.
Altrimenti puoi installarli da Sistema---->Amministrazione--->Gestore pacchetti, selezionando il pacchetto xorg-driver-fglrx, oppure da terminale con

l'ho fatto ma ora non mi abilita neanche gli effetti visivi normali!

Se nella finestra Aspetto-->Effetti Visivi non appare selezionata nessuna delle 3 opzioni, dovrebbe essere tutto ok.
A questo punto prova a impostare degli effetti grafici con Compiz, tipo il cubo o le animazioni di apertura e chiusura delle finestre.

appare selezionato nessun effetto e mi dice che è impossibile abilitare gli effetti...

Ma hai installato Compiz?
La scheda Driver Hardware ti dice che sono attivi i driver?

compiz è installato su driver hardware non mi compaiono i driver..

mi sa che si tratta di un BUG, ci stanno lavorando su....

comunque non dovevi installare i fglrx, ma usare i radeon open (la ATI non supporta più la tua scheda)

Guarda, io con la stessa scheda ho sempre usato i driver fglrx, installati seguendo la procedura "standard".
Se mi dite che non è più supportata, allora non posso essere d'aiuto, mi dispiace...

fino ad ubuntu 8.10 si possono usare gli ATI catalyst 9.3

dai catalyst 9.4 il supporto è solo per la serie ATI HD 2000 in su.

Ok, grazie per il chiarimento! Puoi spiegare tu come fare per sostituirli con i Radeon?

EDIT: qui trovi la procedura da seguire http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Hardware/Video/Ati/Radeon; in pratica devi disinstallare il paccheto fglrx (puoi farlo con ), dopodiché reinstalli i pacchetti indicati nella guida e riavvii.
