Ho provato l'installazione su una scheda grafica i915 integrata. Non ho cambiato una sola riga di xorg.conf. E funziona benissimo, molto meglio di del vecchio sistema xgl e compiz.
Il tutto non consuma praticamente nulla. Processore e programmi, nei tempi morti del pc, sono a zero.

Praticamente mancano tutte le opzioni che ho indicato nel primo post :/ muovi le ditine e scrivicele ;)

Solo che faceva ridere il dire "non ho dovuto modificare niente e complimenti a janvitus"! Se non hai modificato niente allora complimenti a edgy!

A janvitus i complimenti per le modifiche da fare a chi servono e per 1000 altri motivi!!

Se va l'accelerazione, hai i driver open, hai seguito la guida di janvitus con tutte le modifiche da aggiungere, e nella device hai messo le opzioni per ati e non va io non saprei proprio. Mi spiace

Guardato un po' meglio. Tu hai due sezioni device: Una ati e l'altra fglrx. Prova a fare così (ovviamente fai un backup del tuo xorg.conf):
cancella la seconda sezione device completamente e alla prima metti le opzioni che ho postato io + quella per agp se ce l'hai (comunque prova senza prima)
poi fai le altre aggiunte elencate da jan. Così secondo me dovrebbe andare...

dopo l'ultimo aggiornamento aiglx non funziona più...ho controllato il file di configurazione "xorg.conf" ma sembrerebbe tutto ok...comunque ve lo posto qui:

Io ho dovuto reinstallare i driver nvidia poi tutto ok

Ad ogni aggiornamento di xorg si devono reistallare i driver video, penso che accada solo con i driver nvidia.

A me non è successo.
I driver si devono reinstallare solo quando c'è un aggiornamento del kernel.

Sarà, ma accade anche a me, e non uso un kernel di ubuntu, ma uno compilato da me, e i driver sono quelli "originali" nvidia :)
