Ati+aiglx+beryl si può?

Salve a tutti sto leggendo i vari topic ma mi sto creando una confunsione enorme...Ma con feisty Ati+aiglx+beryl si può?E come dovrei fare?
Praticamente ho un ati x600 e beryl mi va bene con ubuntu edgy con xgl.
Ora volevo chiedere se con feisty(appena installato) dopo aver installato accelleratore 3d tramite Restricted driver menager ho installato beryl ma quando abilito il gestore di finestre va in crash e ritorna metacity...che posso fare?

No, in feisty è incluso compiz, che si è unito a beryl : quell'icona che vedi "effetti 3d " ..
Inoltre in feisty c'è già incluso aiglx. Quindi se hai installato i driver proprietari credo che tu debba prima mettere Xgl.

Ciao! Ho un ATI X700 su notebook hp e dopo notti insonni passate a cercare di far funzionare beryl (in quanto prima mi dava il classico cubo bianco) sono riuscito a farlo partire senza nessun problema.
La procedura che ho utilizzato è questa:

installare i driver open + AIGLX:

Pero' successivamente avevo problemi a far partire  Beryl, ho provato con tutti i possibili smanettamenti nello xorg.conf ma nulla... a volte mi tornava al login appena lo facevo partire altre ancora invece schermata addirittura nera.
La mia disperazione mi ha portato a scaricare il pacchetto di Telperion  e niente... nemmeno con quello mi partiva un tubo. Schermata bianca o nulla a seconda delle modifiche apportate allo xorg.conf.

Alla fine sono riuscito a farlo girare senza problemi con il seguente file xorg.conf:

Le righe che vedete precedute dal cancelletto ( # ) sono tutte le opzioni/moduli/cagate  varie che avevo e mi davano i problemi citati sopra.
Pertanto sconsiglio a tutti di tenerle (ATI open source + AIXGL) perche' non necessarie per far partire Beryl.

Sono nuovo del mondo LINUX ma ho trovato che la vostra comunita' è davvero magnifica con un sacco di gente che si sbatte per risolvere problemi ed essere d'aiuto.
Un' ultima cosa: non riavviate solo premendo ctrl+alt+backspace ma dopo la procedura riavviate l'intero sistema e che Dio ve la mandi buona.

In riferimento al topic di apertura, se installi i restricted drivers per ATI, AIGLX te lo puoi scordare perchè non è supportato (per ATI).
In quel caso, per avere un ambiente 3D che permetta l'avvio di Beryl/Compiz o qualunque Desktop 3D, puoi installare XGL.

Se invece vuoi AIGLX (e qui ci sarebbe da aprire un libro sui motivi per cui uno può preferire XGL a AIGLX o viceversa), ti devi affidare (con schede ATI) solo ai driver open, che però supportano bene le schede ATI fino alla X800 (MI PARE, NON NE SONO SICURO).

Quindi se hai una scheda superiore alla X800, devi per forza installare AL MOMENTO i drivers restricted e passare a XGL.

Dopodichè ti si apre il fantastico mondo di Xorg.conf e di tutte le sue molteplici configurazioni  (rotfl)

Io ho un ati X800pro, compiz funziona alla grande con annessi e connessi, peccato che beryl sia molto più completo (e forse meno stabile?).. comunque sta di fatto che beryl (se lascio tutto com'è) va lentissimo, credevo allora di dover modificare qualcosa nello xorg o con i driver ma ogni piccola modifica a quel file .conf mi porta ad una inevitabile schermata nera...

ci teniamo compiz che ne dite?

Un ringraziamento grosso come una casa a Chricco!!! Grazie alla tua immediata e mirata guida (fortunatamente anche io ho un HP con la X700) ho risolto alla grande il problema! Al posto del Beryl consigliato nella guida ho installato quello di telperion ma per il resto è tutto uguale! Ah, unica differenza, ho impostato anche la risoluzione a 1280x800 che va benissimo!!!

Ragazzi, ma mettere fglrx e far funzionare tutto sotto sessione XGL? Io mi trovo benissimo e ho tutti gli effetti di questo mondo con ATI.
