da Applicazioni, Ubuntu softare center è la schermata che ti permette di accedere ai software tematici aggiuntivi da scaricare

ma che differenza c'è? ho letto prima di scaricare Ubuntu ma senza alcuna menzione a caratteristiche specifiche

Ti riferisci a Kubuntu??
Se sì beh ti dico che la qualità grafica è 100 mila volte meglio di ubuntu...per il resto è simile ma non del tutto uguale.
E' tutto da installare da 0 assoluto(non il gruppo intendo).
es:
vai su konsole e installa synaptic
sudo apt-get install synaptic

N.B:
Prima di installare firefox devi dare un bel:
sudo apt-get update
....
attendi
e poi potrai installare firefox
sudo apt-get install firefox
dopodiché un aggiornamento completo:
sudo apt-get upgrade
ma prima di fare quello che ho scritto io andrei a domani mattina visto che adesso è mezzanotte!

All'inizio potrai scegliere gnome o KDE...e sarai liberissimo di scegliere quella che fa per te!

Da quel che leggo qui sembra che hai un problema col tema gtk

Hai provato a cambiare tema ad esempio con quello di default?

devi semplicemente cambiare tema

presumo che tu sia su gnome

ora non uso gnome ma se non sbaglio dai menu devi fare
sistema -> preferenze -> aspetto (oppure tema non mi ricordo)

poi scegli il tema
