Ricerca contemporanea in più file .pdf

Ciao!

Ho un gran numero di articoli scientifici in .pdf.
Mi interesserebbe, molto spesso, ricercare una parola (ad esempio Lactococcus) in tutti i file .pdf (intendo proprio nel testo dei documenti) presenti in una cartella.
Come posso fare?
Su Win 7 ho installato Adove Reader 9 e ho notato che permette questa ricerca su più files contemporaneamente.
Su Ubuntu, oltre al suddetto che ancora non ho installato ed eviterei volentieri, esiste qualche alternativa?
Anche se non é un lettore .pdf non mi interessa.... l'importante é vedere in quali documenti .pdf compare quel termine e poi sarò io che andrò a sfogliarlo.

Il problema è che il grep ha difficoltà a leggere direttamente dal pdf, passandogli invece l'output di less (che mostra solo il testo del pdf, senza tutte le porcherie) non ci sono problemi

Anch'io avevo la tua stessa esigenza e ho risolto con Recoll, che indicizza tantissimi tipi di file (anche pdf) e ti consente un'ampia personalizzazione dei criteri di ricerca.
