i8kutils

Ciao a tutti ho ubuntu da un paio di mesi, e sto imparando un pò di questo bellissimo OS.
posseggo un dell inspiron 9100 e ho installato le i8kutils ,ma non succede niente....
nella descrizione del software compare questa dicitura ma non capisco cosa è questo modulo....
"The programs require the kernel module i8k.o which can be compiled from
the package sources or found in Linux kernel 2.4.14 and later versions.
The kernel module has been tested only on Inspiron 8000 laptops but it
should work on any Inspiron and Latitude laptops"

Vuol dire che il software, per funzionare, necessita il caricamento del modulo i8k.o.
Prova a dare in un terminale questo comando "sudo modprobe i8k", poi lanci il programma i8kutils, se funge puoi far in modo che il pc carichi il modulo all''avvio inserendolo nel file /etc/modules; se non funge aspetta qualcuno più esperto.

Grazie per la risposta,
ma non funge...quando digito da i8kutils mi dice command not found...
ho provato ad installare gkrellm che usa questi tools come plugins ma non vanno mi da errore...

Hai eseguito la procedura per il caricamento del modulo? Ti ha dato qualche errore?
P.S.: googlando in giro ho visto che sembrano esserci problemi nel caricamento del modulo (soprattutto per kernel serie 2.4) che si bypassano forzandone il caricamento. Prova a vedere anche tu se ci capisci qualcosa.

Ho il tuo stesso laptop, e da quel che ho capito le utility in questione vanno solo su kernel 2.4 e solo sulla serie Inspiron 8000. La versione per il kernel 2.6 (
http://dellfand.dinglisch.net/) e'' poco raccomandabile. Io non la testerei per tutto l''oro del mondo
E del resto non mi interessa sapere a che velocita'' girano le ventole del mio PC: Da quando l''ho aperto e tolto 1Kg di polvere la temperatura e'' talmente bassa che quasi non girano del tutto

Da quello che dice sembra fare molte più cose e dovrebbe funzionare anche sui Latitude.
Se ho capito bene, l''utility trattata del link che hai postato è diversa (si chiama dellfan) e non è presente nei repo di ubuntu.
Appena trovo un attimo di tempo, provo a "distruggere" il mio portatile Dell con questa utility

Da quello che dice sembra fare molte più cose e dovrebbe funzionare anche sui Latitude.

sono nuovo in questo forum... vediamo se posso essere d''aiuto...
i8kutils funziona anche su kernel 2.6.x (ampiamente testato su Mandriva 2007) e su altri portatili DELL (io l''ho provato su DELL Inspiron 6400...)
se vi interessa qui c''è una guida che ho scritto per la comunità italiana di Mandriva Linux:

purtroppo Ubuntu differisce un pò da Mandriva e quella guida non va bene...
comunque, se volete caricare il modulo del kernel dovete inserire "i8k force=1" in "/etc/modules"
adesso potrete usare GKrellm per poter impostare i8kutils...

ragazzi io ho kubuntu, ho installato ik8utils dal gestore pacchetti ma continua a dirmi che non trova il comando...help me
