dicono, su launchpad, che kdump è incluso in kexec-tools. installa kexex-tools, dai "kdump-config load" e riproduci il problema
dovresti trovare, al riavvio, /var/crash/vmcore
invia foto e file "vmcore" agli sviluppatori, specificando esattamente come si verifica il problema, la versione di chrome usata, ecc

sudo apt-get install kexec-tools; sudo kdump-config load
lascia chrome aperto, o le applicazioni che vuoi, e spegni il computer. quando mostra il kernel panic (l'errore che hai fotografato) aspetta un po', per andare sul sicuro diciamo un minuto, poi spegni. Al riavvio dovresti trovare un file, /var/crash/vmcore

disinstalli i due pacchetti che hai installato prima :P (sudo apt-get remove kexec-tools kdump-tools)
(suppongo che tu abbia già fatto... altrimenti, se intendi rimuovere kexec per installare kdump... servono entrambi)

in ogni caso credo di aver sbagliato... prima di riprodurre il problema, dovresti settare USE_KDUMP=1 in /etc/default/kdump-tools, editare la riga del kernel in /boot/grub/grub.cfg aggiungendovi "crashkernel=128M" alla fine e riavviare
(e la documentazione in pratica non esiste), scusa
so che è un po' una rottura, non l'ho mai fatto neanche io... e se ti do informazioni sbagliate è perché... non uso ubuntu1. USE_KDUMP is set to 0 by default. To enable kdump-tools, edit
the /etc/default/kdump-tools configuration file and set
USE_KDUMP=1.
(e la documentazione in pratica non esiste), scusa

forse sarebbe meglio se ti aiutasse qualcuno di più competente, e soprattutto qualcuno che attualmente usa ubuntu. non ho nessuna voglia di farmi una vm
