Come faccio a installare il software libimobiledevice?
ho scaricato 'libimobiledevice-1.2.0.tar.bz2' ed estratto la cartella 'libimobiledevice-1.2.0', come continuo?

:) Salve, semplicemente seguendo le istruzioni di questa wiki AmministrazioneSistema/InstallareProgrammi/DaSorgenti, volendo c'è anche la versione aggiornata wilecoyote/provawcdasorgenti e quella per pacchettizzare il compilato wilecoyote/provawccki entrambe in attesa d'accettazione.

:) Salve, c'è il file README che è sempre meglio leggere prima di procedere, inoltre attento che lanciare lo script che indichi è corretto, però se non hai tutte le dipendenze dovrai cercarle, installarle e riprovare a lanciare lo script.

Leggi nella wiki aggiornata il paragrafo su 'auto-apt' e poi prova col comando:

sudo auto-apt run ./configure --prefix=/usr
Se posti il link da dove l'hai scaricato ci do un'occhiata.

Grazie, comunque sto seguendo le indicazioni qui: http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/wilecoyote/provawcdasorgenti per auto-apt.
Se non ho capito male, dopo questa configurazione posso tranquillamente lanciare il comando ./configure [Volendo utilizzare il metodo che scarica ed installa in automatico le dipendenze di configurazione, occorre installare il pacchetto auto-apt (opzionale)].
Ti dico questo per imparare a fare un altra cosa con Ubuntu.

Cosa succede praticamente lanciando ./configure --prefix=/usr o ./configure?
si creano delle sottodirectory con i file di installazione oppure si installa direttamente il programma? Questa cosa mi è molto poco chiara.
Mi piacerebbe capire!

:) Salve, aggiungendo l'opzione '--prefix=/usr' il programma verrà compilato per essere installato come un qualsiasi programma dei repository nella path /usr, molto comodo pacchettizzandolo.

Senza viene compilato per installarlo nella path /usr/local, la directory predefinita per i programmi creati in proprio.

È sopratutto una comodità divenutami cronica a furia di compilare, entrambi dovrebbero funzionare seppur qualche eccezione, rara, di mancato funzionamento installando in /usr/local mi sia capitata.

Non hai messo il 'sudo' prima di 'auto-apt'.
