problema nvidia driver 96.43.07 e intrepid ibex

ho appena installato l'alpha 4...mi sembra già abbastanza stabile per essere un'alpha...però ho un problema abbastanza grave...non riesco in nessun modo ad installare i driver 96.43.07!!! nè con l'installazione da ubuntu...nè con l'installazione dal .bin e nemmeno con gli "assistenti" jokey e envyng!!! credo che sia un problema dovuto al kernel troppo nuovo ancora non supportato dagli ultimi driver nvidia...qualcuno conosce un metodo per installarli???

ah dimenticavo ho una geforce 4 mx 4000

Al massimo usa un kernel più vecchio.

Intendevo dire l'errore che ti da l'installer dei driver.
Hai detto che non riesci ad installarli.. perché? Dove ti si blocca l'installazione? Che messaggio ti viene fuori?

Mi sembra che almeno per l'installer scaricato dal sito di nvidia gli errori durante l'installazione vengano salvati in un file, forse /var/log/nvidia-installer.log .

Fossi in te non ci perderei troppo l'anima.. usa un kernel vecchio, almeno che tu non abbia qualche ragione per provare l'ultimo, e poi quando sarà rilasciata la versione stabile del kernel potrai provare con i driver nuovi.

stessa scheda, stesso problema. Se ho capito bene, oltre al problema del kernel c'è il problema che xorg è troppo nuovo e non è ancora supportato dai driver proprietari....in pratica, non ci resta che sperare...

Mi sento abbandonato al mio destino (comprare nuovo hardware, o downgradare a hardy..)
Forse è meglio stickare il problema, onde evitare delusioni, in attesa di tempi migliori (miglior supporto nvidia a Xorg 1.5 o il contrario?)

E' inutile tentare di installare questi driver, nvidia non ha ancora aggiunto il supporto al nuovo kernel e ad xserver 1.5. L'ultima release dei driver sul sito della nvidia è datata 16 luglio (96.43.07) e NON supporta la nuova combinazione kernel/xorg.

Considerata l'imminente uscita di intrepid ibex, cosa conviene fare a chi ha una scheda video nvidia? rimanere con hardy e attendere eventuali aggiornamenti? gentilmente potreste chiarirmi questo dubbio se è possibile? grazie.

Sei apposto. Altrimenti o ti tieni hardy finché non escono i driver legacy aggiornati o usi intrepid con i driver open che possono andare bene fino a quando non deciderai di utilizzare un'applicazione che si avvantaggi dell'accelerazione 3D.

nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)] (rev a1)  suppongo che non dovrei avere problemi quindi con Intrepid Ibex.

Io ho una GeForce4 440 Go 64M e, mi pare di capire, sono di fronte al dilemma se fare l'upgrade o no.
Quello che mi piacerebbe sapere è se è previsto l'aggiornamento dei driver legacy o se sono su un binario morto >:(

Io ho una GeForce 2 MX 100/200 e con la intrepid attuale non ho nessun problema. Certo, il desktop non è una scheggia ma si lavora abbastanza bene. (niente 3D però eh!)
