La cosa è strana. Io avevo installato il "driver install tool" che ha già compreso il driver per lo scanner. Infatti il "driver install tool" è fatto per installare tutto quanto necessario senza dover passare dal driver stampante al resto.

Ho scaricato dal sito della Brother lo scanner driver ver. 0.4.4-4 perchè mi sono accorto che con il "driver install tool" aveva installato la versione 0.4.4-3.
Ho seguito le istruzioni per l'intallazione.

Ora ecco da terminale:

Finalmente è apparso il brscan4. Ho provato lo scanner e funziona benissimo.

A questo punto, dimmi se sbaglio, potrei reinstallare definitivamente il tutto così:

Invece di utilizzare il "driver install tool" installerei i seguenti driver singolarmente:

- lpr printer driver
- cupswrapper printer
- scanner driver 0.4.4-4
- scan key tool

In questo modo dovrei evitare di scaricare il brscan 0.4.4-3 che non riesce ad installarsi ed installare invece il 0.4.4-4 che funziona.
Che ne dici?
Devo rispettare un particolare ordine nell'installazione dei quattro driver sopra indicati? Va bene l'ordine come da me indicato?

Mi conviene comunque digitare il seguente comando prima di installare la stampante?

Il comando sudo apt install libsane-extras lo puoi tralasciare se lo scanner funziona.

E' perchè ora dovrei installare Ubuntu 18.04 su una ssd appena acquistata e quindi, dovendo reinstallare tutto, volevo fare una cosa pulita.

Sì, procedi con quei driver singolarmente secondo l'elenco che hai scritto al posto dell'installer della Brother.

Ho provveduto a nuova installazione di Ubuntu 18.04.
Ecco come risolvere il problema con lo scanner.
In fase di installazione attraverso il "Driver install tool" previsto da Brother, nella fase riguardante lo scanner potrebbe subentrare il seguente errore a terminale:

ERROR: libusb-0.1 is required

Per evitare tale errore è necessario prima di procedere all'installazione del "driver install tool" digitare da terminale il seguente comando:

sudo apt install libusb-dev

Riavviare il pc.

Poi procedete pure all'installazione del driver e, almeno nel mio caso, tutto funziona regolarmente. La stampante funziona bene e lo scanner attraverso "simple scan" funziona perfettamente.

Volendo si potrebbe anche procedere all'installazione dei singoli driver e non attraverso il "Driver install tool". In questo caso il driver brscan4 avrebbe versione 0.4.4-4 e non 0.4.4-3. In ogni caso funziona tutto bene.
