apt-get install

il log sembra ok... vedo solo qualche scaramuccia sulla videoram.

Prova così:

1. accertati nel bios di mettere 128mb come memoria video

poi dai il solito

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

e metti come memoria video (videoram): 128000

Forse non è questo il problema, però intanto proviamo...

riguardo alle risoluzioni, sei sicuro che il tuo monitor supporti quelle che hai messo?

Allora, rigurado alla videoram è tutto a posto nel bios, e nel serverx era già messa a 128000

La risoluzione che uso è sicuramente supportata, perchè appena la abilito la autorileva, oltre al fatto che già so che è quella dalle specifiche e dal fatto che anche in windows autoconfigura quella, però nella configurazione ne stanno specificate anche altre più basse come possibili scelte e che nn so se sono supportate..

Guarda... ad occhio non vedo nulla di strano...

mah.. a parte la videoram mi sembra identico... e in effetti deve esserlo... comunque proviamoci...

sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.20070509213000 /etc/X11/xorg.conf

poi premi ctrl+alt+backspace (tasto <-- sopra l'invio)

Sostituito il file e riavviato il server x ... tutto come prima >:(

Fortunatamente la mia è la 915 :P

facciamo l'ultima prova... dopodiché mi pare di aver esaurito ogni risorsa... non mi sembra che il problema sia xorg.conf. A questo punto doveva andare.. comunque:

entra nel recovery mode e dai:

(con la X maiuscola)

ti creerà un file xorg.conf.new

quindi dai:

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.copia2

mv xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Prima di questo ci sono altre informazioni, ma non ho modo di copiarle

è un mezzo dramma....

senti, forse il problema può essere legato al famoso bug che ha attanagliato tutti...

controlla la versione del pacchetto xserver-xorg-core. Dovrebbe essere questa:

xserver-xorg-core (2:1.2.0-3ubuntu8.3)

Se invece è la 8.1 allora forse (molto forse) è lì il problema

E allora non saprei davvero... mi sembra che a questo punto ti convenga reinstallare... a meno che qualcuno abbia qualche altra idea.

Beh, ho un'altra possibilità.

Ora ti spiego: il mio notebook, ha due schede video, questa integrata e un'altra "esterna" che è una geforce 8600 256Mbyte.
La scelta della scheda video viene eseguita prima del boot con un selettore hardware e, ovviemente, non si può cambiare a caldo, in pratica, una volta scelta una scheda, per il sistema è come se esistesse solo quella, l'altra non è proprio alimentata.

Siccome già la scheda integrata mi basta per tutte le applicazioni (eccetto i videogiochi ai quali qualche rara volta gioco con windows) ho installato kubuntu con attivata la scheda intel, e se provo ad avviarlo con la geforce non riesce ad avviare il server x, però potrei provare ad entrare in recovery mode e a configurare il server x con i driver giusti, tanto per provare se gli effetti funzionano....

Però in questo mi servirebbe una tua mano dato che fra i possibili driver che posso scegliere non ce n'è nessuno adatto (almeno mi sembra) e non so come muovermi...

Se ti va di darmi una mano ti ringrazio....

Eh... dovresti mettere temporaneamente i vesa e poi una volta partito installi gli nvidia. Però onestamente la reinstallazione sono 20 minuti, molto più di quanto hai speso adesso...
