configurazione seconda scheda ethernet

Salve e GRAZIE a tutti!
E' da pochissimo che ho installato sul mio server Ubuntu 6.06 e finora sono riuscita ad andare avanti solo grazie ad infinite letture sul wiki e forum.. ma adesso mi sono bloccata!  >:(

Vorrei configurare il mio server come gatway di riferimento, in modo da avere solo lui collegato verso l'esterno che condivide la connessione tramite LAN.

Attraverso la eth0 riesco ad uscire in rete senza nessun problema
Vorrei configurare la eth1 come gatway per la rete lan locale

ho impostato il mio /etc/network/interfaces così

Ho pensato potesse essere un problema di driver, allora ho scaricato dal sito della Broadcom il driver per la NetXtreme II, nel formato rpm.

Credo di averlo installato correttamente

Ho riavviato tutto il sistema ma se riavvio il networking, stesso errore: Failed to bring up eth1.

E' strano che ifconfig non ti riconosca la scheda...hai provato a lanciare ifconfig -a (mostra anche le interfacce disattivate)?
Cmq il file interfaces sembra apposto....solo che la eth1 nel tuo caso non dovrebbe avere un gateway. Te lo dico per esperienza xsonale xke' anke io uso ubuntu 6.06 server e praticamente ho fatto la stessa cosa che vuoi fare tu... qui c'e il mio file interfaces... e cosi' funziona!!

cosi' e' minimale ma ti posso assicurare che funziona (previa configurazione di firestarter). cmq controlla prima che ifconfig -a ti mostri la eth1 se no e' inutile andare avanti!

ifconfig -a non mi vede la eth1.. perchè non esiste nessuna eht1 
Andando a vedere le caratteristiche del mio server ho letto "2 connettori di rete RJ-45 (1 dedicato a iLO)"
Sarei curiosa di sapere a cosa serve.. se qualcuno potesse illuminarmi, ne sarei grata!

Nel mentre ho montato una seconda scheda di rete PCI e tutto funziona a meraviglia  (good)
Ho levato il gateway dalla eth1: non andava proprio con i parametri completi (Grazie a Flexo87)
