[risolto]Problema con driver ATI

Ciao a tutti,
ho installato i driver ati con envy (installazione automatica), ma non soddisfatto delle prestazioni di questi, decido di ritornare ai vecchi driver closed più Xgl.
Quindi su envy scelgo l'opzione disinstalla driver ati.
poi elimino envy
poi installo i driver con restricted manager.
Ora però la situazione è questa:

il driver che mette il restricted manager è closed source... envy pure mi sembra che metta il closed source quindi non capisco quello che hai fatto...

io prima usavo il closed source di restricted manager, poi ho provato quello con envy (che è una versione più recente), poi non soddisfatto ho voluto rimettere il closed con restricted.
Quindi è successo un casotto.
Ma ora sto andando avanti con gli open, e la situazione si è stabilizzata.
Poi riproverò a rimettere i closed + xgl e vi farò sapere.
Intanto con questi mi trovo abbastanza bene.

Niente da fare, con questi driver open è impossibile fare alcune cose (tipo giocare a frets on fire)
e mettendo i driver closed fglrx ritorno alla situazione disastrosa che vi ho mostrato prima, cioè i driver sono installati ma risultano non in uso.
Spero che qualcuno abbia la soluzione.

Quando è così, la situazione è difficilmente risolvibile... quando succedeva a me ero solito formattare in quanto il tempo che occorre per l'operazione è circa un quarto d'ora (compreso di ripristino impostazioni e programmi... farsi un'immagine con dd è veramente utile :) ) mentre invece il tempo che occorre per risolvere il problema è sicuramente superiore.

Se hai rimesso il driver vecchio (8.40) il composite deve essere "Disable" e non "1".
Posta pure gli output di lsmod e dmesg.

Allora hai la mia stessa scheda video e diverse volte mi son trovato davanti a questo problema!il fatto è che non mi ricordo mai come si faccia a risolverlo! ;D
Ti assicuro cmq che è un piccolo problema ed in 5 minuti si può risolvere. Di solito si incappa nei driver mesa quando si fa casino con le installazioni dei fglrx.
Prova a dare questi due comandi da console ed in seguito riavvia:

Codice: Seleziona tutto

sudo mkdir -p /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri  
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri 
Se fglrxinfo ti da ancora i MESA prova a dare un'occhiata a questa guida:

@dj def: ho messo composite=1 perchè ora sto con i driver mesa, almeno con questi funziona quasi tutto, voglio rimettere i vecchi fglrx+xgl perchè avevano prestazioni migliori.

@romano: eheh forse sono incappato in qualche casino installando i driver con envy.
quindi da quanto ho capito devo installare gli fglrx con restricted manager e poi dare quei 2 comandi che hai detto.
ora provo.

allora... il tuo problema è che fglrx non viene proprio caricato nonostante sia specificato in xorg.conf! Questo si vede sia in dmesg che in lsmod!
Dato che non viene caricato puoi provare a forzarne il caricamento in /etc/modules assicurandoti che in lista e nel corretto ordine siano indicati:
agpgart
modulo agp della tua scheda madre
fglrx
Dopodiché se ancora non funziona riposta l'output di dmesg e lsmod.

Puoi iniziare ad inserire dalla fine, mi raccomando, prima agpgart, poi il modulo della tua scheda madre (relativo all'agp) e poi fglrx.
