hard disk usb, pacchetti richiesti

premetto di aver cercato la risposta sia su google ,sia sul forum, ma non sono riuscito a trovare nulla di simile.
ho un hd esterno con porta usb. lo stesso funziona, infatti collegato  al portatile, viene visto immediatamente ( con ubuntu 7.04). Il pc desktop, che fino a 10 giorni fa faceva regolarmente il mount, non riesce piu. Alla fine ho deciso di migrare alla 8.04, ho anche rnominato i file di configurazione ( .local, .gnome ecc) ma il problema e' rimasto identico
Piu' precisamente lo vede, ma poi lo disconnette.

Sembra il file-sistem corrotto. Attaccalo e controllalo con gparted.

Primi consigli (forse stupidi  :o ) l'hai provato su tutte le porte usb del tuo pc? Hai provato l'hd su un'altro pc? hai provato qualche altra periferica sulle porte usb del tuo pc?

Non credo ci siano problemi di pacchetti mancanti. Piuttosto di permessi.

questo hard disk viene letto benissimo dal portatile con ubuntu.
il pc desktop ( quello con il problema) vede altre periferiche ( come mouse , macchine fotografiche), quidni escluderei problemi hw.
il discorso dei permessi e' interessante,  ma non capisco cosa/come modificarli.
ripeto, ho formattato tutto reinstallando da capo , il laptop vi accede senza nessuna configurazione

Hai aggiornato ubuntu? Se si, prova ad installare gparted e vedi se riesci a montarlo da lì.

Se non hai il sistema aggiornato dai un bel:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

si, aggiornato. ma non e' questo il motivo. ha iniziato a  dare il problema  con la 7.04 ( per un anno ha funzionato tutto benissimo) poi ho formattato e installato la 8.04, ho provato appena finita l' installazione ( quindi pulito), e  poi  durante  i vari aggiornamenti.
l' errore e' sempre lo stesso.

ho provato le live, sia della 7.04 sia con la 7.10.
stesso errore.
come fa allora il portatile con la 7.04  ::)
