Secondo monitor (dualhead) attivo: compiz non funziona piu

Scheda video Ati x700, ho configurato correttamente il secondo monitor (una tv lcd) attaccato al mio portatile, le risoluzioni sono: 1440x900 per il portatile e 1280x768 per il secondo monitor.

Da quanto ho attivato il dual head tramite il comando

sudo  aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=left

compiz non funziona piu.

Ora, esiste un modo per risolvere il problema? E se no, come si puo disattivare facilmente il secondo monitor quando non mi serve, giusto per avere gli effetti di compiz?
