Si, è vero, non è lo stesso problema di giaccava... mi sono confuso con miksly, che è intervenuto qui e che probabilmente ha un conflitto tra karmic e ATI.

Eccolo. Ho dovuto tagliarne un pezzo ma ci dovrebbe essere la parte relativa al blocco. Il mio orologio di sistema è sballato di 3 ore ma non dovrebbe essere un problema.

mi si blocca ogni volta che cerco di scaricare qualcosa da internet, compresi aggiornamenti, anche da terminale. Con la 9.04 andava da Dio, ma per gestire la scheda wireless usavo  ubuntu-modules-backports (almeno credo che servissero a quello). E comunque non si bloccava neanche prima.  Non saprei che aggiungere.
Ora sto tenendo la 9.10 solo per vedere se riusciamo a risolvere il problema. Grazie dell'aiuto.

Avevi ragione sui backport
leggiti la segnalazione di bug su Atheros:

I believe I have the same, or at the least a very similar issue. These constant CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS by the wpa_supplicant are always the last syslog entries on my system prior to the crash/freeze and my manual restart. I also filed a bug report about this. The PPA at https://launchpad.net/~stefan-bader-can ... ive/karmic contains the coming kernel update for Karmic. It fixes some issues with ath9k, though I am not completely sure this issue is covered. But it would be worth a try. If that does not help, the PPA also contains the latest version of linux-backports-modules-wireless which contains more recent upstream wireless drivers. I would suggest, you give that a try, if the kernel update alone is not enough. Please report back here how this worked (or not).

The backport modules (2.6.31.15.28) (which I think is based upon stable compat-wireless-2.6.32-rc4) help a lot. I've had stability for several hours on those drivers with no DMA stalls

Situazione non brillante, ma li stanno provando

Ho provato a cambiare connessione. Questa non va più forte di 100kb/s e per ora non si blocca... Però rimpiango i miei 2mb/s di download.
Ora provo a installare i backports.

Non è vero si blocca pure questa. Ma la cosa più grave è che sul gestore pacchetti non trovo i moduli backports. Non ci sono. Eppure ho fatto apt-get update e non ha dato problemi...

Ok, mi sono collegato tramite la scheda LAN da una postazione del mio studentato e ora li sto scaricando con questa. Appena riesco a installare questi benedetti backports faccio sapere.
