No, non mi hai detto che marca ha il touchpad: synaptic, alps, ...?
Così riesco a capire bene che driver cercare.
Il comando synclient va bene se hai un touch della synaptics se no non serve

Prova a guardare nel manuale del laptop.
Intanto postami il file Xorg.0.log presente in /var/log che forse facciamo senza
