ubuntu si pianta quando connetto usb

grande ubuntu, ho installato edgy come mio secondo x os(ho provato la suse 10.1 prima)e sono rimasto superentusiasta di come ho potuto subito navigare senza configurazioni e vedere contenuti multimediali installando da synaptic alcune librerie,ora se risolvo anche questo:
come collego la stampante o la fotocamera tramite usb mi si pianta il sistema con la schermata freezata e la freccia del mouse che non muove. ora siccome credevo fosse un problema di stampante ho installato i driver come da guida hplip,hpijs, e varie librerie dipendenti,e niente....poi ho collegato un altro dispositivo usb (fotocamera) e stesso risultato mouse e schermata bloccati,ho provato a vedere dmesg:
