abilitare gli effetti grafici su nvidia 520mx, ubuntu 12.04?

ciao a tutti ho un asus della serie x53s e dispongo di una Nvidia 520mx su ubuntu 12.04 a 64bit. il problema è che non ho gli effetti grafici, eppure in modalità live prima di instalarlo li aveva. con ubuntu 11.10 appena finita l'installazione gli effetti erano attivati, sul 12.04 invece no, e non credo che la mia scheda video non li supporti. come dovrei fare, il sistema è aggionato, ho aggiornato tutti i pacchetti anche con synaptic ( ed è spuntata la casella dei driver).
cosa devo fare per gli effetti grafici, mi consigliate di usare la scheda intel hd della cpu, se si come attivarla, oppure l'nvidia, se si come. una domanda, è vero che il pacchetto nvidia x server settings preinstallato nel sistema serve per i driver proprietari ( preferirei i driver opensource)
ho lasciato un output con il mio hardware ma servirà solo quello per la sheda video
