Ciao a tutti,
è da qualche giorno che ho installato una scheda grafica con processore nvidia GT 630. Oltre al fatto che mi migliora sicuramente la resa grafica rispetto al chip incorporato nella scheda madre, devo dire che probabilmente c'è qualche problema di funzionamento. Alcune applicazioni che sfruttano la grafica, come alcuni giochi 3D crashavano con i driver consigliati, cioè i Current Update. Ora sto provando i 310, che forse dovrei evitare essendo sperimentali, ma la grafica dei giochi funziona meglio. Però i problemi di crash di applicazioni che usano la grafica non sono finiti, per esempio mi crashano i video su youtube (si blocca proprio il pc). Provo a postare il file Xorg.0.log che potrebbe essere utile ad individuare eventuali errori a chi ne capisce qualcosa più di me.

Scusa, ma ho provato a seguire questo post Problema con driver Nvidia
eseguendo i comandi del terminale, poi ho attivato i driver e sembrava funzionassero, ma ha avuto dopo parecchi crash di FF, quindi ho disinstallato i driver.
Quindi la situazione è cambiata. Sono stato precipitoso e chiedo scusa. Ti posto comunque i risultati del comando che mi hai suggerito

Dal gestore di pacchetti synaptic, ho installato nvidia common. Ora sono alla situazione di partenza: quando apro il menù driver aggiuntivi, posso installare i current-update, gli experimental 304 e 310. Per ora non installo nulla, rimango senza accellerazione 3d, in attesa di consigli da chi ne sa più di me. Ho gia fatto abbastanza casino ...

cmq per quello che ne so i driver Nvidia migliorano parecchio dalla versione 310.19 (per Nvidia sono stabili ma li dovresti installare manualmente) perchè inseriscono il supporto di OpenGL e risolvono bug importanti.
Io attualmente ho installato i 313.09 che sono in beta ma mi vanno ancora meglio.

A dir la verità, cercando sul synaptic i driver nvidia, ho avuto la possibilità di installare i 313.18 che finora sembra che funzionino bene. Sono prudente ad affermarlo perché con tutti i problemi che ho avuto finora preferisco aspettare un po' prima di vedere che qualche applicazione crashi, ma al momento non è successo. Ora, però, avendo abilitato i repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa, il gestore degli aggiornamenti mi dà la possibilità di fare gli aggiornamenti di quei repository. Essendo questi sperimentali, mi conviene tenerli e fare gli aggiornamenti?
Ho appena finito il messaggio che mi è crashato firefox, speriamo in bene...

Ho provato ad installare i driver in tutti i modi possibili ed immaginabili, non mi resta altro che provare ad installare i driver dal sito della nvidia e far l'installazione manuale. Se i metodi che vedi in questa discussione e in altre simili non funzionano, non saprei dirti. Il metodo manuale non l'ho mai provato. Piuttosto che versione di Ubuntu hai? Ti faccio questa domanda perché quando ero passato dalla 10.04 alla 12.04 all'inizio i driver proprietari nvida non mi funzionavano e avevo grossi problemi col settaggio della risoluzione video, tanto che sono tornato alla 10.04. Successivamente, diciamo quando era già uscita la 12.10 o stava per uscire, ho fatto il passaggio alla 12.04 e i driver proprietari funzionavano senza problemi.

Veramente, per quanto ne so, nvidia-common serve proprio per trovare driver obsoleti. Comunque non credo che sia necessario disinstallarlo. Piuttosto, io ho disabilitato i repo che mi hanno permesso di scaricare ed installare i 313 perché ti fanno scaricare e aggiornare software sperimentali (come sono i 313). Secondo te, ho fatto bene?
