[RISOLTO]hard disk esterno non più riconosciuto Ubuntu 18.04

gentilissimi,
ieri pomeriggio ho aggiornato il software come proposto da ubuntu, ed alla fine mi è uscito un messaggio per una reinstallazione di grub. Avendo provato più volte, spuntando ogni volta ogni disco presente, non dava nessun risultato utile ed ho annullato l'operazione e riavviato al termine degli aggiornamenti. Oggi mi sono reso conto che non riesco ad accedere alla memoria esterna (la WD Elements), che però risulta collegata con usb. Aiuto!

mmc è una scheda sd che ho dentro per piccoli download di files
di /dev/sdb, che formattai in ext4, nessuna traccia. Che fare?
Aggiornamento definitivo: photorec è l'unico software che legge i files nel disco rigido con file system corrotto e li copia tali e quali su un disco diverso.
