E' la prima volta che apro una discussione, in precedenza mi ero inserito erroneamente in un'altra, creando a mia insaputa solo il vostro disappunto, me ne scuso ancora.
Premetto che su vostro consiglio ho riletto più attentamente il regolamento del forum e ne terrò a mente tutti i vostri consigli.
Provengo da sistema operativo Mac, ma ora sono nel mondo Ubuntu in maniera definitiva, da circa 6 mesi ho acquistato un computer con le seguenti caratteristiche:
Macchina: HP-290-G2-MT-Business-PC
Memoria: 3,7 GiB
Processore: Intel® Core™ i3-8100 CPU @ 3.60GHz × 4
Grafica: Intel® HD Graphics (Coffeelake 3x8 GT2)
GNOME: 3.28.2
Tipo SO: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 64-bit (preistallato su mia richiesta)
Disco: 983,4 GB.
Inizialmente tutto ok, la stampante citata nel titolo, che già usavo con l'altro computer, è stata riconosciuta automaticamente appena collegata con il cavo USB, sino a quando un giorno
mentre stavo stampando, è venuta a mancare l'energia elettrica nella mia zona e da quel momento non riesco più ad usarla, visualizzando su: impostazioni > dispositivi > stampanti il seguente messaggio "Il servizio di sistema per la stampa sembra non essere disponibile".

Ho provato su: Additional Printer Setting > connetti > connetti a server CUPS > / run/cups/cups.sock (unica voce del menù a tendina) > connetti - mi restituisce il messaggio "Errore del Server CUPS"

Ho provato su: HP Device Manager > Connection (I/O) Type > Universal Serial Bus > Hide Advanced Option > Type > All-in-one/MFP device only > next
si apre il pannello del 2° step: Select From Discovered Device > viene evidenziato il modello della stampante > next
si apre il pannello del 3° step: Setup Device (con quattro caselle):
- Printer Name: HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M26nw;
- Descrition: (vuoto);
- Location: (vuoto);
- PPD file: (not found, clich Browse Button to select a PPD file)
eseguo il comando > si apre la cartella /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP/HP-Fax-hpcups.ppd.gz
e qui mi fermo perché non riesco ad andare oltre.
Vi sarei grato di qualsiasi suggerimento per risolvere il problema.

Se funzionava e non gli manca niente io (come primo tentativo) cancellerei la stampante dal sistema e lo farei ripartire a stampante accesa, per fargliela trovare da solo. Di solito con hp può bastare

Puoi indicarmi il modo migliore per cancellare la stampante, visto che da: impostazioni > dispositivi > stampanti risulta "Il servizio di sistema per la stampa sembra non essere disponibile".

Clicca su questo link:

http://localhost:631/printers

clicca sulla tua stampante HP LaserJet Pro ...... (evidenziata in blu), si aprirà una nuova pagina, clicca in alto sul menu a tendina Administration, seleziona Delete Printer, la tua stampante verrà eliminata, chiudi il browser.

Rifai la procedura dando questo comando da terminale con la stampante accesa:

procedi con l'installazione della stampante laser HP.

Come puoi vedere mi dice che è impossibile trovare un file PPD appropriato per il modello della mia stampante,
come posso procedere?

Premetto che ho la stessa stampante ma sul mio sistema funziona senza problemi. Potresti provare ad usare il comando hp-doctor. Purtroppo su ubuntu 18.04 lanciando il semplice programma da errore per fare partire il comando bisogna digitare il seguente comando:

python3 /usr/bin/hp-doctor

All'avvio dirà che la distribuzione è deprecata ma basta premere il tasto y per andare avanti.
