Problema riguardante l'aggioramento e driver

Buonasera a tutti, mi chiamo Davide.
Oggi ho sistemato lo sgabuzzino di mio padre e ho trovato un suo vecchio PC Acer Aspire 5710Z. Una decina di anni fa proprio mio padre gli istallò Ubuntu; vorrei riportare il pc ad una condizione che sia utilizzabile. In questo momento vedo tutte le scritte sgranate, non riesco a vedere i video, non mi permette di fare aggiornamentii. Sono veramente alle prime armi con Linux e non so da dove cominciare, ho provato a cercare nel forum ma non sono riuscito a risolvere.
Per aggiornare ubuntu e i driver ho provato a inserire nel terminale il comando:

Non sono in grado di darvi tante informazioni se non il nome del PC e la versione di Ubuntu che è la 10.04. Vi prego perdonatemi per la mia ignoranza, immagino che per voi saranno veramente elemetari queste quesioni ahahahah.

Buonasera a tutti, mi chiamo Davide.
Oggi ho sistemato lo sgabuzzino di mio padre e ho trovato un suo vecchio PC Acer Aspire 5710Z. Una decina di anni fa proprio mio padre gli istallò Ubuntu; vorrei riportare il pc ad una condizione che sia utilizzabile. In questo momento vedo tutte le scritte sgranate, non riesco a vedere i video, non mi permette di fare aggiornamentii. Sono veramente alle prime armi con Linux e non so da dove cominciare, ho provato a cercare nel forum ma non sono riuscito a risolvere.
Per aggiornare ubuntu e i driver ho provato a inserire nel terminale il comando:

Che non riescano gli aggiornamenti è normale visto che la 10.04 è fuori supporto da anni.
La macchina è alquanto scarsina e, anche se riuscissi ad installare una versione moderna del sistema operativo arrancherebbe, come hai già constatato, per la maggiore richiesta di risorse dei programmi e dei siti web attuali.
Prova a scaricare lubuntu e usarlo un po' in live per vedere come va, oppure qualche altra distribuzione ancora più leggera, ad es. antix (non l'ho mai usato ma qui sul forumne sento parlare bene quanto a leggerezza).

EDIT: ricordati che il computer è a 32 bit, quindi se scarichi i sistemi operativi devono essere in grado di supportare tale architettura (ubuntu non lo è, ma lo sono i suoi flavor xubuntu e lubuntu)

Ciao...su un portatile simile ma con 3 gb ram ( Aspire 5612 wmli da cui sto scrivendo) ti posso dire che al momento ci gira piu che egregiamente la versione 18.04 di Xubuntu a 32 bit...per cui ti potrei consigliare di scaricare la suddetta versione oppure Lubuntu che sarebbe anche meno dispendioso e provare in live come ci funziona

Ciao ragazzi, ho installato lubuntu 18.04 e sembra girare bene, il problema è che non riesco a caricare i driver. In driver aggiuntivi mi da solamente il driver Broadcom che è relativo al Lan, mentre non mi da altri driver da scaricare. Eppure io continuo a vedere male quindi mancano i driver della scheda video, per quanto riguarda il disco fisso (mi riferisco ai driver controller SATA) c'è da scaricare qualcosa?

Sata non necessita di scaricare driver in quanto inclusi nel kernel.
I driver video dipende da che grafica hai, se in Driver aggiuntivi non ti segnala niente o hai la casella 3 non selezionata oppure non hai una scheda grafica dedicata in qual caso i driver Intel o Amd sono caricati automaticamente.

A questo punto mi sembra un pò inutile soffermarmi su un problema di incompatibilità del mio pc con linux, probabilmente il mio pc è troppo vecchio ahahah. Questa mattina ho pensato che per lasciare questo pc a mio fratello sarebbe stato più opportuno mettergli XP, in quanto linux non è tanto accessibile per un ragazzino di 10 anni (secondo me), soprattutto per questi problemi che mi da dal punto di vista grafico. Quindi ho provato a mettere XP dal cd originale tuttavia al momento in cui vado per mi da questo errore "Nessuna unità di disco rigido installata"; per questo mi ero soffermato sui controller SATA, sapreste darmi qualche dritta su come risolvere questo problema?

potrebbe essere forse il problema di xp a non riconoscere il controller sata se è un sata2 o sata3.
e le caratteristiche del pc.
Ma poi mettere Xp che è fuori supporto dal 2015, che non esiste più un browser che legga le pagine attuali, che non esiste più un antivirus adatto, cosa se ne farebbe di quella installazione ?
Se è sufficentemente in forza ti tira il pc in testa.
